Beyonc - If I Were A Boy
Found at skreemr.com

I love the fact that Beyonce is a huge star and married to the King of rappers. I like my pop stars larger than life. I thought it was great Greg Dulli and Liz Phair proudly wanting to be rock stars. Dulli and Phair were a lot more fun than Eddie Vedder.

Quote of the Day

"The first lesson, simple as it is, is that whatever court we're in, whatever we are doing, at the end of our task some human being is going to be affected. Some human life is going to be changed by what we do. And so we had better use every power of our minds and our hearts and our beings to get those rulings right."

Al Franken Press Conference

Minnesota's nightmare is over.

I don't have a problem with the length of the recount process. I didn't support Norm Coleman candidacy but I support his right to contest the vote. It is time for Republicans to back election reform.

Franken tells the crowd he doesn't see himself as the 60th Democatic caucus member. Franken say he is the "second Minnesota Senator." Smart sound bite answer.

A 60 Democratic caucus translates into Democrats are still going to cave in.

"It's true," said Manley when reached by phone. "It is obviously sometimes difficult to say this to your audience [Huffington Post readers]. While this is, of course, good news to the people of Minnesota, President Obama, and the Senate Democratic, Franken's mere presence alone will not mean that the Democrats will be able to jam through our agenda, or make it any less critical for Democrats and Republicans to work together. We have a diverse caucus who represent diverse constituencies. No one's vote is ever automatic. Also... we have two senators that currently aren't voting right now. But then I would go back and say that up until now we have gotten very little to no help from Republicans who say no against everything and are prepared to bet on this president to fail."

On the Ed Show, Markos Moulitsas Zúniga said Democrats will have a hard time in 2010 if they can't anything done with a super majority. Bush passed tax cuts, the Iraq war and the Patriot Act with less Republicans. Senate Democrats have no excuse not to pass their agenda.

Honduras Crisis

Litbrit has a lengthy post on the Honduras coup. The current situation in Honduras is of personal interest to Litbrit. She spent time in Tegucigalpa during her youth.

The United States is taking a cautious tone. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton expressed concern over the removal of President Manuel Zelaya. Clinton would go as far as label the crisis a coup. The first reason is pragmatism. The White House is waiting the see how the situation plays out. The second reason is the Obama administration has tense relations with Zelaya. The Honduran president is a close ally with Hugo Chavez. That doesn't win points with the White House.

Asked whether it was a U.S. priority to see Zelaya reinstalled, Clinton said: "We haven't laid out any demands that we're insisting on, because we're working with others on behalf of our ultimate objectives."

Zelaya has been threatened with arrest, if he returns to the country. Zelaya intends to enter Honduras with U.N. General Assembly and Organization of American States. Attorney General Luis Alberto Rubi has threatened Zelaya with 20 years in prison.

Zelaya placed a referendum, on the ballot, that would ask if the Honduran Congress should rewrite the Constitution to allow the President to serve more than one term. Rubi and the Supreme Court ruled the ballot illegal. Zelaya kept the referendum on the ballot. The military refused to distribute ballots. Zelaya overstepped his autority by going against the Supreme Court. The military and opposition members overstepped by launching a coup. Democracies do not throw out their leaders by gun point.

Residents in Tegucigalpa sensed trouble before Zelaya was ousted.

Some businesses in the capital, Tegucigalpa, closed earlier this week amid the rising tension.

"A lot of people are worried there will be a coup," said Julio Godoy, a 66-year-old retiree who supplements his pension driving a taxi through Tegucigalpa's hilly streets. "You have businesses closing, stores, even banks. That only causes more fear, even after they open again."

Godoy said he would not vote Sunday because he thinks Zelaya only wants to hold on to power. "This is why presidents are only allowed four years," Godoy said.

Supporters of Zelaya have taken to the streets in protest.

Mark Sanford & Sanctity of Marriage

Social conservative and anti-gay marriage Gov. Mark Sanford admits to having affairs with more women. Sanford uses the Bill Clinton defense that he didn't get to home plate. Only mistress Maria Belen Chapur had his heart.

"This was a whole lot more than a simple affair, this was a love story," Sanford said. "A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day."

Sanford sounds like a bad Hallmark card.

Sanford and Chapur met 7 times during their 8 year "forbidden" relationship. The last time was in January of 2008. Sanford and Chapur ended the relationship after Jenny Sanford learned about the affair.

In related news: South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster is investigating if Sanford broke any laws when the Governor disappeared.

News of relations with other women ends the slim hope Sanford had of saving his political career. Sanford can hold on to his term as Governor but he will never be elected to public office again. The worse matter is his hypocrisy. Sanford as been outspoken again gay marriage. Sanford as no ground on whic to speak of the sanctity of marriage.

Update: Gawker points out something I missed. Sanford ended his affair with Chapur twice. The second time was when Sanford pulled his now infamous disappearing act. The first time was in New York of this year.

Two nights in Manhattan in September 2008.

Three nights in the Hamptons in November 2008.

One night in New York in 2009 with a "trusted spiritual adviser," to end the affair, which his wife found out about in January of that year.

Quote of the Day

"The bottom line is this: progressives who hold back on criticizing the Obama administration from the left are doing a disservice both to President Obama and to progressivism itself. Not offering such criticism bears the real risk of discrediting both President Obama and progressive policies. While it might get you access, and invitations to the best parties, over the long term it is a huge net negative for the causes in which we believe."

Mason-Dixon Florida Senate Race Poll

The latest Mason-Dixon poll shows Gov. Charlie Crist having a sizable over Marco Rubio. Crist leads 51 percent to 23 percent advantage.

Democratic Congressman Kendrdrick Meek 27 percent to 12 percent lead over Corrine Brown. The latter has not officially announced her candidacy. Brown has statewide name recognition at 9 percent and an unfavorable rating at 10 percent. Meek polls with a only 1 percent unfavorable rating. Brown would start the campaign with negatives and without the party's support.

Crist's unfavorable rating is 22 percent to Rubio's 5 percent. If Rubio is going to have success it will be defining himself to voters that don't know him. Crist will use his charisma and sunny disposition.

The Democratic primary is currently a one candidate race. The Republican primary is drawing national attention for how the race is splintering the GOP's pragmatic and ideologue fractions.

Someone Please Kill the Daily Loaf Blog

I am searching for the words to perfectly describe just how bad is the Creative Loaf blog Daily Loaf. There is the crash and burn attempt at satire. The fictional Charlie Crist romance novel is boringly pointless.

"Horrible doused with awful, that's how I'd describe it. Yikes," Litbrit told me. "Oh my God, and here I was thinking Gov. Sanford was the worst writer in the world!"

Daily Loaf stooped lower by posting nude photos of Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester. (I'm not linking the post.) Apparently, there is a sex tape. Creative Loafing felt the journalistically responsible thing to do was post several nude photos of Meester. It is sad to see a once great alt-weekly resort to trolling for traffic.

John Sugg did great investigative journalism for the Tampa edition of Creative Loafing. Former staff writer Alex Pickett wrote about the Tampa many people didn't see. Creative Loafing is not going to get out of bankruptcy by becoming a poor man's version of Fleshbot.

Side note: Litbrit's comment were aimed at the faux Charlie Crist romance novel and not Creative Loafing.

Majority of Congressional Delegation Opposes Offshore Drilling

Senator Bill Nelson got 24 of 27 members of the Florida Congressional delegation to oppose offshore drilling. The delegation signed a letter addressed to Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner. Members not signing the letter are John Mica, Bill "Gator" Posey and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

According to a Nelson spokesman, that would mean not altering the current limits that forbid drilling within at least 100 miles of Florida’s Gulf coast, and farther out—more than 200 hundred miles—from Tampa Bay.

A Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University discovered lifting all oil bans would produced only 18 billions barrels of oil. The bans include Alaska and Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Nelson explained, on the Senate floor, the oil companies want the leases not necessary to drill. The lease values will potentially boost stock prices. F-22 pilots will train in the Gulf. Nelson explains rigs will pose potential safety hazards to pilots.

Larry Cretul May Run Against Alan Grayson

Larry Cretul is considering running against Congressman Alan Grayson. The NRCC views Grayson as vulnerable because he was against the war in Iraq and bailout recipients' excessive bonuses.

“Floridians know Larry Cretul as a workmanlike public servant who understands that getting things done means not worrying about grabbing headlines,” said NRCC spokesman Andy Sere. “Alan Grayson is the obnoxious guy at the dinner party who ends up embarrassing the poor soul who invited him. If Speaker Cretul gets into this race, the contrast couldn’t be clearer.”

The NRCC assumes all voters share the ideological views of the base. Grayson defeated Ric Keller because voters did not share the GOP worldview. RedState.com can do ambush interviews on Grayson over a failed earmark. People hate paparazzi-style stalking.

I will be the first to admit Grayson comes off as a jerk and no candidate is unbeatable. Cretul's dilemma is he doesn't have much of a voting base in Grayson's district. The Republican brand isn't doing well in Congressional elections. Cretal has his own problems of tax increases, $400 million raid on trust funds, increasing Florida's deficit and running secret meetings. Grayson will relish pounces on those faults.

Grayson is a rising star in the Democratic Party. Both parties need attack dogs and Grayson fits the bill. The only reason we are talking about Cretul is because House Speaker Ray Sansom got into trouble for the porked-filled aircraft hanger project. Before then Cretul was on no one's political radar. The NRCC will not clear the field for Cretul. I hardly call that a vote of confidence.

Happy Pride Day

Today marks the aniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

The White House is starting to understand the gay community is angry about the foot dragging on "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and other related issues. The Republican Party's efforts to use homosexuality as a wedge issue has caused people to become more aware and accepting of gay marriage.

“The diminution of the homophobia has been as important a phenomena as anything we’ve seen in the last 15 years,” said Representative Barney Frank, Democrat of Massachusetts, who is gay.

The Services and Advocacy for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Elders hosted a panel of gay activists that became active after the Stonewall Riots and the Christopher Street Gay Liberation Day March.

It's Good to Be King

Gov. Mark Sanford compares his martital and political troubles to King David.

"And what I find interesting is the story of David and the way in which he fell mightily, he fell in very, very significant ways but then picked up the pieces and then built from there."

This may shock people but I actually feel sorry for the guy. I'm also politically astute enough to understand Sanford is digging a grave by comparing himself to King David. Another flaw in Sanford's analogy is David had Bathsheba's husband killed in order to marry her. Sanford has enough problem with his sanctity of marriage message.

Perez Hilton Accused Michael Jackson of Faking Cardiac Arrest

I had to read Perez Hilton'sblog (for the first and only time) after seeing a screen capture on Twitter. Hilton accused Michael Jackson of faking cardiac arrest. How someone fakes a heart attack is beyond me. After Jackson died, Hilton went back and took out most of his post. Here is what was omitted.

We are dubious!!

Jacko pulled a similar stunt when he was getting ready for his big HBO special in ‘95 when he "collapsed" at rehearsal!

He was dragging his heels on that just like his upcoming 50 date London residency at the 02 Arena, of which he already postponed the first few dates!!!

Either he's lying or making himself sick, but we're curious to see if he's able to go on!!!

Get your money back, ticket holders!!!!

Click the image below to see Hilton's original post. This is irresponsible journalism and gives bloggers a bad name. I got more respect for Michelle Malkin than I do for Hilton. Malkin has admitted to errors. Hilton writes a vicious post about a dying man and then attempts to erase the evidence. Scanning his blog to find the original post, I saw mean-spirited messages written over celebrity pictures and shitty writing. Why do people read this guy? I don't get it.

Fiance of Neda Soltan Speaks

Neda Agha-Soltan's fiance, Caspian Makan, tells Al-Jazeera about the events leading to Neda's death. Makan said they were driving from a long trip. They stopped and Neda got out of the car to get air. Shortly afterwards she was shot.

Makan said Neda paticipated in silent protests but was not affiliated with any of the candidates. Makan's story of Neda's shooter being Basij militia member matches Arash Hejazi's account.

The Iranian government did not allow Neda's family to hold a funeral in a mosque or their home. Public virgils have been broken up by security forces.

Ahmadinejad Plays Blame Game

The Iranian government runs a crooked election and murder protesters. The people have become disillusioned with the government. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is saying this is the fault of Europe and President Barack Obama.

On Thursday, Mr. Ahmadinejad said: “We expected the British and European countries to make those kinds of comments. But we were not expecting Mr. Obama, who has talked about change, to fall in the same trap and follow the same path that Bush did.”

Mr. Ahmadinejad did not stop there. “I hope you avoid interfering in Iran’s affairs and express your regret in a way that the Iranian people find out about it,” he said.

If a meteor hit Iran would that be the fault of Obama and the West? It wouldn't surprise me if Ahmadinejad tried to spin it that way.

Michael Jackson RIP

By now you know Michael Jackson is dead. TMZ broke the story. I didn't believe it at first. TMZ is hardly a reputable news source. Media critic Eric Deggans is correct about how news of Jackson's death quickly spread on Twitter. I agree with Deggans that TMZ and OK Magazine might have been gruesomely banking on Jackson's death in order to increase traffic. However, TMZ is the first to report Jackson had a heart attack. I'm extremely curious how TMZ found out so fast.

My two favorite Michael Jackson songs.

I no longer care about Jackson's bizarre past or will make excuses for his behavior. I do marvel at the artisticly creative period that was the Off the Wall and Thriller albums. Jackson was the biggest star on the planet during his peak. Jackson had the same on pop culture and fashion as Sinatra, Elvis and the Beatles.

Latest Obama Poll Numbers

The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll shows President Barack Obama killing Republicans in polling numbers. Obama has a 65 percent approval rating. The Democratic Party has a 53 percent approval rating. Republicans have a much lower 36 percent.

This question was given to respondents.

Which of these statements comes closer to your view: (Beneath it all, Obama is an old-style, tax-and-spend Democrat) or (Obama is a new-style Democrat who will be careful with the public's money).

58 percent felt Obama was a "new-style Democrat" that would be thrifty with tax dollars. 36 percent said Obama was a tax and spend Democrat. 52 percent approved of Obama's handling of the current Iranian crisis. Obama's major polling weakness is his bailout for automakers. 45 percent approved and 50 percent disapproved.

Health care

The polling numbers for health care reform are in Obama's favor. Obama needs to continue to speak to Americans and force Blue Dog and DLC Democrats to back the public option.

21a. (IF SUPPORT) What if having the government create a new health insurance plan made many private health insurers go out of business because they could not compete? In that case would you support or oppose creating a government-run health insurance plan?

56 percent would support health care reform that would kill insurance companies. Americans hate the insurance industry. I'm not anti-capitalist and understand businesses are to create profits. I don't want a health industry monopoly. I wrote the reason Republicans killed importing cheaper drugs from Canada is they are anti-free market. Health care industry lobbyists contribute to campaigns to discourage industry competion. Obama successfully pointed out the contradictions in Republicans anti-health care rhetoric.

OBAMA: Why would it drive private insurance out of business? If -- if private -- if private insurers say that the marketplace provides the best quality health care; if they tell us that they're offering a good deal, then why is it that the government, which they say can't run anything, suddenly is going to drive them out of business? That's not logical.

The Republicans lack of logic and Obama's political skills explain the current polling numbers.

Arash Hejazi Talks About Neda's Death

The BBC interviews Dr. Arash Hejazi about the day of Neda Agha-Soltan's death. Hejazi saw Neda shot and attempted to save her life. Neda died from a massive blood loss. The exact shooter is unknown. Iranian security forces were seen shooting at the crowd of protesters.

The video (NSFW) of Neda's death is harrowing. Blood poured out her mouth and nose. Neda convulses and the life from her eyes flickers out. In the confusion, people are screaming in shock and at their sense of helplessness. A young woman is butchered by an invisible killer. Neda was not armed and did not pose a physical threat. The cruelity of fate decided she would stand in a bullet's path.

Hejazi said protesters grabbed a Basij member they believe killed Neda. Hejazi said the protesters didn't know what to do with the man. They let him go and took his identity card. Hejazi said he saw the exchange between the Basij militia member and protesters firsthand.

Hejazi explained why he came forward.

"It was a tough decision to make to come out and talk about it but she died for a cause. She was fighting for basic rights... I don't want her blood to have been shed in vain."

He added: "She died on the streets to say something."

Update: Neda's fiance talks about the events leading to her murder.

Quote of the Day

"If we look at American history, between 1942 and 1947, the data that was collected by the census bureau was handed over to the FBI and other organizations, at the request of President Roosevelt, and that’s how the Japanese were rounded up and put into the internment camps."

Michele Bachmann

Japanese Americans were placed into interment camps because of President Roosevelt's xenophobic paranoia. Bachmann's own xenophobia allows her to continue supporting the holding unprosecuted detainess in Guantanamo Bay. 540 detainees have been released. Many were captured by Afghan warlords and sold to the CIA. There are accounts of warlords capturing innocent men to collect bounties. Bachmann's and other Republicans' ears are offended at hearing such information.

Bachmann terrorism stance is merely posturing. She quickly goes into panic mode, at the thought of detainees living in her state.

"It is simply irresponsible to shut down a facility that houses known terrorists and transfer them to our neighborhoods," said Congresswoman Bachmann. "While I understand the interest of the White House in making this well-orchestrated PR move, these are very dangerous terrorists and they must be treated as such. To transfer them anywhere near Minnesota residents - or any American citizen for that matter, is a risk we cannot afford to take."

Bachmann wants national security without sacrifice. Ramzi Ahmed Yousef and Timothy McVeigh were held at the ADX Florence supermax prison in Colorado. No prisoner ever escaped. Gitmo detainees would not go to Minnesota because the state has no supermax facility. Bachmann's fear is irrational. Bachmann never let a silly thing, such as logic, interfere with lawmaking.

Political Wives Standing Up

I second Ann Friedman's sentiment. Wives shouldn't be used as political props when their husband's get caught in a scandal.

Finally, I was glad to see neither Ensign's nor Sanford's wife did the ol' "stand by your man" routine at the mea culpa press conferences. Hope this is a new trend of politicians standing on their own when they apologize for their personal indiscretions.

Women don't need to go through the media humiliation to make their tarnished spouses look saintly. Imagine how Hillary Clinton felt knowing the nation was aware of her husband's infidelity? Mark Sanford Emails To Mistress

The State has e-mail exchanges between Mark Sanford and the infamous Maria. Sanford confessed today to having an affair.

From Gov. Sanford,
Date: Thursday, July 10, 2008, 12:24 a.m.

“One, tomorrow leave at 5 a.m. for New York and meetings. Will think about you on its streets and wish I was going to be there later in the month when you are there. Tomorrow night back to Philadelphia for the start of the National Governor's Conference through the weekend. Back to Columbia for Tuesday and then on Wednesday, as I think I had told you, taking the family to China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Thailand and then back through Hong Kong on world wind tour. Few days home then to Bahamas for 5 days on a friend’s boat for the last break of the summer. The following weekend have been asked to spend it out in Aspen, Colorado with McCain - which has kicked up the whole VP talk all over again in the press back home ...

Two, mutual feelings .... You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light - but hey, that would be going into sexual details ...

Lastly I also suspect I feel a little vulnerable because this is ground I have never certainly never covered before - so if you have pearls of wisdom on how we figure all this out please let me know... In the meantime please sleep soundly knowing that despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.

Sanford writes e-mails the way Barry White sings soul songs.

Joel Award: Fred Barnes

It is time to give out the Joel Award. The award goes any celebrity, pundit, blogger or politician that purposely contradicts himself or herself.

The speed at which Fred Barnes contradicts himself on Fox News is amazing.

And then when you see, you know Obama has used — the most pathetic thing is to say, gee, well, we were involved in 1953 — 1953! This is an extremely young society. You think those demonstrators are thinking, well, we hope the U.S. stays out because they were involved in 1953? That's total nonsense.

Barnes then declares inside knowledge to the collective memories of the Iranian people.

POWERS: I think there is a history there.

BARNES: 1953?

POWERS: They do remember the United States meddling.

BARNES: No, they don't.

Barnes doesn't seem to have a problem remembering 1953 Iranian coup d’état engineered by the CIA on President Eisenhower's orders. The Democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddeq. The Prime Minister nationalize Iran's oil industry. The British wanted the oil and unsuccessful attempting to overthrow Mosaddeq. The British imposed an embargo.

The Shah and Mosaddeq had a fallout over the contol of the military. Mosaddeq resigned and protesters took to the streets. Three days later Mosaddeq would be back in office.

The West interfering with Iran's oil revenue and political process. Barnes is a fool if he believes Irans won't remember their own country's history.

Conservative columnist George Will explains how short sighted the neoconservative criticism President Obama is.

WILL: The president is being roundly criticized for insufficient, rhetorical support for what’s going on over there. It seems to me foolish criticism. The people on the streets know full well what the American attitude toward the regime is. And they don’t need that reinforced.

Ray Sansom Troubles Continues

Ray Sansom preaches he is a man of values. Perhaps Sansom can explain what in his values made him feel it was appropriate to charge $597 for a private dinner with Bob Richburg to a RPoF American Express card. This dinner was part of a meeting between Sansom and Richburg that violated Sunshine laws. The dinner took place at the University Center Club. The establishment bills itself as "Tallahassee's premier private club experience." At $30.00 a steak and and 29.00 for grouper it maybe Tallahassee's most expensive private club experience.

Sansom faces up to five years in prison official misconduct charges. Richburg has been indicted on perjury. The charges stem from a aircraft hanger project Sansom, Richburg and Jay Odom personally benefitted from.

Below is what Sansom and Richburg ordered. All together they ordered 222 items. Click the image to enlarge.

In related news: State Attorney Wilie Meggs is seeking a search warrant for Ray Samson's laptop. If granted the warrant, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will examine the computer.

Meggs is not happy with how slowly the process has been going. He wanted Sansom's computer torn apart yesterday.

“Since the legislature is building airport hangers instead of funding FDLE, they’re a little behind,” Meggs said.

Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Phyllis Busansky is dead. Busansky was missing and her staffers became worried. She was found dead in a St. Augustine hotel room. She was in St. Augustine for the Florida State Association of Supervisor of Elections conference.

The Hillsborough County Supervisors of Election released this statement.

It is with great sadness the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office announces the passing of Supervisor of Elections Phyllis Busansky. Mrs. Busansky, 73, was attending the Florida State Association of Supervisor of Elections conference in St. Augustine with members of her staff at the time. She passed away sometime during the night. The cause of death is not known at this time.

Authorities do not suspect foul play. The St. Petersburg Times reports Busansky has a history of lung cancer. Supervisor of Elections spokesperson Sigrid Tidmore was with Busansky the night before she was found dead.

Tidmore was with Busansky last night, before she went to sleep about 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. She said Busansky was not complaining of any pain. When Busansky didn't respond to phone calls this morning after not showing up to today's conference meetings, hotel security went to check on her and found her dead, Tidmore said.

St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chuck Mulligan said his deputies responded to a call around 9 a.m. this morning from the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village. Busanksy was found dead on the floor of her hotel room with no trauma to her body, he said, and there didn't appear to be any foul play or struggle. She appeared to have died of natural causes.

Republican Ken Hagan praised Busansky's reforms of the Supervisor of Elections office.

In her too short tenure in that office, Ms. Busansky had already greatly opened access to citizens, improved communication with the public and worked tirelessly to restore the people's confidence in the election process.

At some point in time an election will be held to fill Busansky's position. No word on that. People are absorbing the shock of Busansky's passing. She had an impressive career in Hillsborough County politics and will be missed.
