Five Eight - Weirdo

Tampa music lovers will remember the Five Eight shows in the 90s. I always wondered if the local Tampa bands that opened or came to see Five Eight knew what made the band special. During that time, local Tampa bands would draw five people to the Brass Mug. Five Eight would pack the Bragg Mug. Fans would know the lyrics to Five Eight songs. This was amazing considering that their records got no air-play and were hard to find.

I saw Five Eight lead singer Mike Mantione threaten to strip naked and recite poetry, if no one bought the band's shirts and CDs. When there were no takers, Mantione stripped and read some of the most a poem about someone telling him he has a loser. The end of the poem was "love, Mom."
