Wingnut of the Day: Michael Willette

Maine state Republican Senator Michael Willette thought it was a good idea to post this anti-Obama status on Facebook.

Willette is now backtracking from his less than brilliant Facebook post.

“I apologize for posting this on Facebook. Like too many people these days, I fell into the trap of posting something first and then thinking later. It was an error in judgment,” he said.

It is bad enough to post a racist post. It is quite another thing for Willette to not have the courage to stand by his racist rant.

Side note: I continue to be amazed at how Republicans think the President that ordered the attack on Osama bin Laden somehow loves terrorists.

Dubious Rubio on Social Media

Mysterious Marco Rubio parody accounts have started on Facebook and Twitter. A parody of Sen. Marco Rubio may seem redundant. Rubio does a great job of making himself seem silly. The accounts are fun and lively. Dubious Rubio has challenged Sen. Rand Paul to a hip hop freestyle battle on the Senate floor.

Dubious Rubio on Twitter.

Dubious Rubio on Facebook.

PS: Don't talk about science or mention to Dubious Rubio that he is going bald. He gets very touchy about that.

Very Interesting Facebook Ad

I saw that Facebook is running an ad for World Cannabis Week on the newsfeed. Needless to say, I was somewhat surprised. I knew that recreational cannabis is now legal in Washington and Colorado. I just wasn't expecting vacation tours. Capitalism at its finest.

More information

Questions about attending World Cannabis Week? Call us, 1(855) MY-420-TOUR, we would love to talk with you! Double occupancy hotel rooms filling fast.

I personally can't stand weed. I do find it amazing that we live in a time where cannibis tours are advertised on Facebook.

NRA Takes Down Facebook Page

AdWeek reports that the NRA has taken down their Facebook page.

The National Rifle Association shut down a key Twitter account last summer in the aftermath of the Aurora, Colo. theater shootings. On Saturday, one day after the unthinkable shootings at a Newtown, Conn. elementary school, the NRA took a more drastic measure by deactivating its Facebook page after celebrating getting 1.7 million fans on the social site earlier this week.

The NRA doesn't want to talk about the Newtown shooting right now because they are extremely disliked by large segments of Americans angry about gun violence. Now is the time to talk about gun violence. Not when Newtown is no longer in the news and the NRA can safely go back to bullying Republican politicians to do their bidding.

Dumbass Threatens President Obama on Facebook

Miami resident Amador Serrapio Jr. threatened President Barck Obama on Facebook. Serrapio, to the shock of no one, lives with his mother. The Secret Service were granted permission by Serrapio and his mother to search the house. The Secret Service found the threatening Facebook postings. A pellet rifle and handgun was also found. The Secret Service also found the Ipad the Facebook messages were written on.

The first of Serrapio's Facebook postings was written under the alias "Jay Valor."

Who wants to help me assassinate Obummer while hes at UM this week?

"UM" is the University of Miami.

The second posting.

If anyones going to UM to see obama today, get ur phones out and record. Cause at any moment im gonna put a bullet through his head and u don't wanna miss that! Youtube!

Apparently, it is Obama's fault that Serrapio still lives with mom and is barely literate. If you don't believe Serrapio is dumb then explain how did he think he could get away with threatening the president on the largest public forum in the world?

Governor Skeletor on the Internet

Behold the Governor Skeletor web sites on Facebook and at www.governorskeletor.com. The blog posts such gems like this.

What does the performance of these children have to do with how profitable these schools are for me? It's for the best that they never learn how to read and write. Kids who are taught to think will be more likely to ask questions about why they're being sent to labor camps.

I believe Peter Schorsch first came up with the nickname Skeletor for Rick Scott. I know this because a reliable source informed me of this. That source would be Peter Schorsch.

So I googled “Rick Scott + Skeletor” and the first, and practically only, reference to such a search is on Saint Petersblog.

So now, here comes Mac Stipanovich doing his “I’m the wise old man of Tallahassee” routine, cribbin’ my line abour Rick Scott lookin’ like Skeletor.

That’s almost as bad as wtching Frank Langella play Skeletor in the live action version of Masters of the Universe. Actually, nothing’s that bad.

Peter actually watched the Masters of the Universe movie? Really?

Ban This Racist Facebook Page

Someone had the horrible idea to create the Facebook page "The Fried Chiken and Crack Cocaine Depot." The page is for a fake restaurant. An offensive picture of two black men staring at a roosted chicken recalls black mistrel shows. The adddress for the fake restaurant in the black neighborhood in the Compton section of Los Angeles.

I am asking readers to report this page to Facebook. There is no reason this fake restaurant should be listed. The only goal of this page is to promote negative racial stereotypes. Help me take this page off of Facebook.

Rick Scott's Facebook Townhall Disaster

Sheree reports Gov. Rick Scott only answered twelve questions during his Facebook townhall meeting. Scott signed off claiming he was suffering technical problems. The more likely reason is the tough questions asked by Facebook users. Sheree reposted several of the best questions asked.

It is hysterical that Scott choked during a Facebook townhall meeting. We are talking about the same Rick Scott who sent his mother to speak in his place. Apparently, Scott felt the Boca Raton Republican Club was too tough of a crowd.

Side note: I want a Rick Scott mask for Halloween.

Alex Sink's Stance on Freedom of Religion

Gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink posted this comment on her Facebook profile.

I stand with General Petraeus in condemning the planned burning of the Quran, as it could put our troops in harm's way. I also feel this display of hatred and intolerance is not in keeping with the values and spirit of our state.

Good for Sink to come out against the insanity of the Dove World Outreach Center's plan to burn the Quran. However, I doubt Sink would have made this statement if she didn't have Gen. Petraeus as political cover. Sink sang a different tune about the YMCA-style facility that was going to be built by the Cordoba House in Park 51. The facility was not on ground zero of the 9/11 attacks, but 2 1/2 blocks away. Conservatives used the Cordoba House as a political issue because Muslims were building the facility.

Sink's statement on the Cordoba House:

"Like all Floridians, I'm grateful for our constitutional right to freedom of religion... When it comes to what to build close to the hallowed site of Ground Zero, I think it ought to be up to the people of New York to decide. It is my personal opinion that the wishes of the 9/11 families and friends must be respected. They are opposed to this project and I share their view."

I wonder how Sink would feel about the Cordoba House if Gen. Petraeus came out in support of the Cordoba House, which would have a basketball court and cooking school, being built on Park 51 property.

Republican Party of Duval County Post Obama Nazi Picture

The Republican Party of Duval County sent out e-mails to promote the July 2 Tea Party at the Jacksonville Landing. The Duval GOP posted this picture of President Barack Obama dressed as a Nazi on their Facebook page.

Tea Baggers and Republicans saying offensive things about Obama is nothing new. Republican fundraiser Al Austin sent out an e-mail about how hysterical it would be if the United States military assassinated Obama. In Southern California, Chaffey Community Republican Women sent out an e-mail of a mock Obama dollar bill with racist intentions. Tampa Bay area Tea Party activist David McKalip made national news by sending out a photoshopped e-mail of Obama dressed as a witch doctor. McKalip served as a fundraiser for the Marco Rubio campaign.

The Republican Party of Duval County would not see anything wrong about posting the Obama Nazi picture on Facebook because many Republicans share the same racist views as Tea Party protesters. Former Hillsborough County Republican Party chairman David Storck sent this e-mail out the day of the 2008 general election.

THE THREAT: HERE IN TEMPLE TERRACE, FL OUR REPUBLICAN HQ IS ONE BLOCK AWAY FROM OUR LIBRARY, WHICH IS AN EARLY VOTING SITE.

I SEE CARLOADS OF BLACK OBAMA SUPPORTERS COMING FROM THE INNER CITY TO CAST THEIR VOTES FOR OBAMA. THIS IS THEIR CHANCE TO GET A BLACK PRESIDENT AND THEY SEEM TO CARE LITTLE THAT HE IS AT MINIMUM, SOCIALIST, AND PROBABLY MARXIST IN HIS CORE BELIEFS. AFTER ALL, HE IS BLACK -- NO EXPERIENCE OR ACCOMPLISHMENTS -- BUT HE IS BLACK.

There is more to the e-mail but I thought I spare readers the pain.

Kill Obama Facebook Page

Via GottaLaff: some brain dead human being had the horrible idea to start the Facebook page "Kill Barack Obama." The link GottaLaff provided no longer works. Most likely, Facebook has deleted the page. Which would be wise. Threats to the President's life is taken very seriously by the Secret Service.

I remember the Right hating Bill Clinton during his presidency. The anger towards Obama has reached another level because of cable news, social media and talk radio. A Black Berry and television set are not responsible for the actions of people. Media does have the ability to connect people that feel the same level of wingnuttery and can appeal to other highly impressionable people. The world has changed since the days Matt Drudge was the most feared new media provocateur.

Set Your TiVo

Alan Grayson will be on Rachel Maddow's show tonight. Grayson's web has a health care page.

And the Republicans in Congress don't care. They have shown time and again that they lack compassion and common human decency. They supported President Bush's veto of children's health insurance and are satisfied with how the current system works.

But it's not working for most Americans.

If only Grayson would let us know how he really feels about the opposition party.

Check out the Alan Grayson Facebook page.

Tampa Tribune: Start Paying Bloggers

I have received a lot of emails from bloggers that are concerned about their work being used by the Tampa Tribune without consent. I have blogged about Pushing Rope content being used without permission. Tina Dupuy and Alex Pickett have written about similar experinces. I have decided to start the Facebook group "Tampa Tribune: Start Paying Bloggers." The group is to help bloggers whom have had their work used by the Tampa TribuneTBO.com without their consent. This is a place for us to organize, share ideas and post updates. WE also want to know if your work has been used by the Tampa Tribune without consent or credit.

Obama Facebook Poll Numbers

I just took the Re-elect Obama Poll on Facebook. I was actually reluctant to vote yes. I realized Obama would run uncontested in the Democratic primaries and the Republicans would likely nominate Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney. I would actually welcome the Democratic Party having a big field of candidates for 2012.

Facebook users took an even harsher view of Obama.

Will you vote for Obama in 2012

Yes - 23,360 (22.4%)

No - 76,755 (73.5%)

Undecided - 4,310 (4.1%)

What is disturbing is Facebook is used by many young people. That is a demographic Obama does well. Since Facebook opened up to everyone, the demographics changed somewhat. These doesn't explain why the numbers are this bad.

Bill Maher has been critical of Obama for not standing up to corporations and more concerned with image. People wonder when Obama is going to get his hands dirty and fight the tea baggers and the right-wing talk radio chamber. The answer is never. That wasn't Obama's style during the campaign. Why should things change now. Sen. Lindsey Graham explained to Ezra Klein why Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats are compelled to support Obama's health care reform.

You make people afraid of opposing you or you get them rewarded for helping you. There's no fear for opposing Obama's public option, and the reward is for opposing it. Right now, Republicans feel no political exposure from opposing the president's health-care initiative.

Maher's point was proven by the White House cut a deal with the pharmaceutical industry.

WASHINGTON — Pressed by industry lobbyists, White House officials on Wednesday assured drug makers that the administration stood by a behind-the-scenes deal to block any Congressional effort to extract cost savings from them beyond an agreed-upon $80 billion.

Drug industry lobbyists reacted with alarm this week to a House health care overhaul measure that would allow the government to negotiate drug prices and demand additional rebates from drug manufacturers.

Patients and taxpayers will continue to pay for for prescription drugs. That is change I don't believe in.

Sarah Palin's & Charles Krauthammer's Health Care Vision

"The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil."

Sarah Palin, on Facebook.

Conservatives have used their scare tactics. No one will be denied health care because of their lacked of productivity. There is zero evidence of this. Palin and other astroturfing organizations want to keep spreading the myth to kill support of health care reform.

47 million Americans are denied health insurance, either because of money or medical conditions. Jacqueline Ruess had laparoscopic surgery to see if a growth was ovarian cancer. Her insurance company dropped her.

But four months after Ruess's medical crisis passed, she faced a financial one. The Insurers Administrative Corporation (IAC), the company in Phoenix that managed Ruess's health care policy, completed what it says was a routine review of her records and discovered what it called evidence of a preexisting gynecological condition.

Because Ruess had not disclosed the symptom on her application, her insurer said she had never been eligible for coverage of gynecological problems. The result: Ruess was on the hook for the cost of her surgery, which, including doctor and hospital bills, amounted to more than $15,000.

Ruess was flabbergasted. "I was — please forgive me for lack of a better term — pissed off," she says. What IAC called a preexisting condition was a one-time notation in her file regarding "dysfunctional uterine bleeding" — that is, irregular periods, a common issue that at some point affects between 10 percent and 30 percent of women in their reproductive years. At the time she experienced erratic periods, Ruess had lost her husband and her father had died, too, which is why her doctor attributed the symptom to stress.

What happened to Ruess is becoming far too common. President Bush and Republicans were against increased SCHIP funding. Millions of children would be without health care, if it wasn't for SCHIP. Fewer employers are offering health coverage to employees' children. These kids have no other option.

Millions of Americans getting dropped from private health insurance isn't about offering life. This is about putting the interest of the health insurance industry over the welfare of American citizens. Charles Krauthammer's grand scheme is tax credits and tort reform. This would do absolutely nothing to help the uninsured. Krauthammer is revising the John McCain health care proposal. I blogged about the McCain plan: "Employers would have less incentive to offer health care." Krauthammer wants to end employer sponsored health insurance, without offering an alternative.

There is no logical reason to get health insurance through your employer. This entire system is an accident of World War II wage and price controls. It's economically senseless. It makes people stay in jobs they hate, decreasing labor mobility and therefore overall productivity. And it needlessly increases the anxiety of losing your job by raising the additional specter of going bankrupt through illness.

Krauthammer's proposal would save health insurance companies and employers money. American citizens are going to have a financially harder burden getting health insurance. Employers pay part of health coverage and can cut group rate deals with insurance companies. People will pay more getting health insurance on their own. The most likely outcome is less people with health insurance. Krauthammer can keep his reform.
