Mark Foley: Harrassing Pages Since 1995

The Washington Post reports that pages were warned to stay away from Mark Foley since 1995. Foley creepily asked male pages if they wanted to have ice cream with them.

Foley was emailing and writing note to page since his Freshman year. Mark Beck-Heyman provideed the Post with a letter Foley wrote to him. The pages interviewed said they did not receive sexually aggressive emails or letters. Nevertheless, they felt uncomfortable around Foley.

"Mark Foley knew that he could get away with this type of behavior with male pages because he was a congressman," said Beck-Heyman, who later worked in the Clinton White House and on Sen. John F. Kerry's presidential campaign. "But many people on Capitol Hill," including many Republican staffers, "have known for over 11 years about what was going on and chose to do nothing," he said.

Foley wrote to Beck-Heyman and asked if he wanted to attend the 1996 Republican convention. Beck-Heyman was already out of the page program.

What why now know is that pages have been weirded out by Foley since 1995. How come it went on for 11 years?
