Drudge Promotes Fearmongering Post Zimmerman Trial

Leave it to Matt Drudge to falsely claim that race riots are breaking out across America. The image above was taken from the homepage of The Drudge Report by Dave Weigel. Weigel checked the links posted by Drudge and found out that we are not experiencing racial violence in America.

Instead, there are links to a white guy in Portland saying that "every cop is a target," another link to the Oakland protests from Saturday, and a headline from the Daily Mail that doesn't really jibe with the story:

Like Glenn Reynolds of InstaPundit, Drudge plays up to xenophobia. These guys are without shame.

Romney's Fantasy-Based Campaign

The Romney campaign falsely believed that The Drudge Report and the late Andrew Breitbart's media empire was going to replacement mainstream media. Anyone who saw Karl Rove's meltdown on Fox News knows that is not going to happen. You can only bullshit people for so long before reality comes crashing down. Lenny Alcivar, spokesman for the Romney campaign thought otherwise.

When this election is over, one of the lessons that will be learned by the mainstream media is that they no longer have a toe-hold on how Americans receive their news. Never before –in a way that has taken Democrats off stride –have we seen the confluence of an aggressive online community, led by Breitbart, and an aggressive campaign team not willing to cede an inch of ground to Democrats. This combination has created a new political reality. We no longer allow the mainstream media to define the political realities in America. The rise of Breitbart, Drudge and others, combined with an aggressive Romney campaign is a powerful tool in the arsenal of the conservative movement. If I talk to Breitbart about an issue, thousands more will hear our message than if we give a quote to one of the hill rags.

Alcivar's interview with Breitbart News reminds me of an infamous encounter journalist Ron Suskind had with a President Bush staffer. That staffer is believed to be Rove.

Just like the Bush administration, the Romney campaign wanted to create their own reality. That is why they believed in skewed polls and bogus political consultants. The result was Obama winning a second term. Living a in fantasyland is what people do when they don't have empirical evidence on their side.

Drudge Report Plays Up Racial Divide

This shouldn't be a partisan or racial issue. This should be an issue about justice. Unfortunately, we live in a country where conservative talk radio hosts feel the need to take Zimmerman's side, not because they believe he is innocent, but because playing up the racial divide would drive up ratings.

George Zimmerman made this a racial issue when he described Martin as a "fucking coon" on his phone to the police dispatcher. It is an issue to many in the black community because they have seen many young men like Trayvon Martin, whom have been murdered and never received proper justice. George Zimmerman is many things but victim isn't one of them. The victim is a teenager that is dead. That is what Drudge, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh will never acknowledge.

His statement that the MSM would not cover this story proved to be wrong. The media loves of young white women in jeopardy. That is why so much unneeded coverage was given to the Runaway Bride.

Noel Sheppard of Newsbusters argued "the victim a young, black, Obama campaign volunteer", is disgusting. Study after study shown African Americans don't get a better deal in the Justice system. Furthermore, if the story was true, the attack would be morally reprehensible, regardless of race or party affiliation. Democrats and Republicans should be able to agree on that point. If not, then this country has serious problems and change needs to be more than a campaign slogan.

These bloggers ignored the Jamie Leigh Jones story and Sarah Palin rape kit controversy. They suddenly became women's right activists when a (false) mugging of a female McCain supporter of by alleged Obama supporter. I wouldn't think these bloggers were using the assault of a female for political means, if they didn't gleefully make fun of Jessica Valenti's breasts.

It is a slow news day for Matt Drudge. Pollster.com compiles all the polls. The Pollster numbers show Barack Obama 50.2 percent to John McCain's 42.6 percent. You have to give points to Drudge for trying. His big jpegs and red fonts are more effective than McCain's miserable campaign.
