Wingnut of the Day: Rep. Steve King

Republican Rep. Steve King can't help but say racist things about Hispanics. King told Newsmax that the children of illegal immigrant are actually drug mules.

He cites those illegals who were brought to the United States by their parents as young children, for instance.

"Some of them are valedictorians — and their parents brought them in. It wasn't their fault. It's true in some cases, but they aren't all valedictorians. They weren't all brought in by their parents.

"For everyone who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there who weigh 130 pounds — and they’ve got hands the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert,” King tells Newsmax. “Those people would be legalized with the same act."

How does King know that these children have "hands the size of cantaloupes"? Has King personally examined children of illegal immigrants. King says these crazy things without any facts. King doubled down and told Breitbart News that what he said was the gospel truth.

In an interview with Breitbart News on Wednesday, King pushed back against the Republican backlash by calling on people to review his remarks. He said, “they will understand that what I said is objective, it’s true and it cannot be logically challenged.”

Even fellow Republicans aren't buying it and are distancing themselves from King.

House Speaker John Boehner

“There can be honest disagreements about policy without using hateful language,” Boehner said in his statement. “Everyone needs to remember that.”

"Hateful language" is a polite way of Boehner admitting that King sounds like a racist.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor

”I strongly disagree with his characterization of the children of immigrants and find the comments inexcusable.”

Let's make things clear. Steve King is never going to march in a civil rights rally. King's has shown public disdain for gays and lesbians. King is against ENDA and made these bizarre remarks to Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council.

KING: And he said, “let me ask you a question.” “Am I heterosexual or am I homosexual?” And they looked him up and down, actually they should have known, but they said, “We don’t know.” And he said, “Exactly, my point. If you don’t project it, if you don’t advertise it, how would anyone know to discriminate against you?” And that’s at the basis of this. So if people wear their sexuality on their sleeve and then they want to bring litigation against someone that they would point their finger at and say, “You discriminate.” …This is the homosexual lobby taking it out on the rest of society and they are demanding affirmation for their lifestyle, that’s at the bottom of this.

King went as far as to accuse Attorney Eric Holder and President Barack Obama of racism. I love how racists project their faults on others.

When you look at this administration, I'm offended by Eric Holder and the President also, their posture. It looks like Eric Holder said that white people in America are cowards when it comes to race. And I don't know what the basis of that is but I'm not a coward when it comes to that and I'm happy to talk about these things and I think we should. But the President has demonstrated that he has a default mechanism in him that breaks down the side of race - on the side that favors the black person.

I hope the people in King's district are proud of their elected representative.

Soledad O'Brien and Tony Perkins Interview

Soledad O’Brien called out Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council for accusing all gay men of being a pedophile.

“A pedophile has sex with children,” O’Brien pointed out. “Are you saying that someone who’s gay is a pedophile?”

“No, I never said that,” the Family Research Council president insisted. “I’m saying that they’re trying to create an environment that is protective the children. This doesn’t make it more protective. There is a disproportionate number of male on boy pedophilia — when we get into pedophilia, it’s male on boy. There’s a higher incident rate of that. We never said all homosexuals are pedophiles or all pedophiles are homosexuals.”

Perkins quickly backtracks from calling gay men pedophiles.

Brien's question answers itself. Perkins doesn't give a damn about discriminating against gays and lesbians.

“Because it’s discriminatory,” O’Brien observed. “Do you worry you’re on the wrong side of history on this? Do you think that you’re going to look up and say, ‘We were on the wrong side in this debate, that this was an organization that ultimately stood for discriminating against some people.’ Don’t you worry about that?” “The question for the scouts is, are we going to continue in our mission and are we going to provide the safest possible environment for these boys or are we going to cave in corporate dollars?” Perkins replied. “That’s the question before the board today.”

Perkins doesn't give a damn about history or facts. What is really pathetic is Perkins keeps accusing gays and lesbians of being pedophiles. When pressed he isn't courageous to say it outright.

Men of Little Faith

You will be shocked to learn that Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council and Tim Wildmon of the American Family Association are not fans of President Barack Obama. The two Christian Right activists talked about the President on American Family Radio’s Today’s Issues.

Perkins: I disagree probably 80 to 90 percent of his policies, I will go on record Tim in saying I think he has been the worst president this country ever had and if he has four more years in the White House I don’t know that the country can survive his attacks on the family.

Wildmon: I will lose faith in the American people if they don’t have more wisdom than that.

It is amazing how little faith these men of faith have. America has survived the Civil War, great depression and WWII. Yet Perkins doesn't think America could survive four more years of Obama. Perkins must have thought The George W. Bush years was a time of peace and prosperity. Wildmon would no longer have faith in the American people if Obama is re-elected. Democracy gives people the power to elect their leaders. If they aren't good it is the American people's fault that a president such as Hubert Hoover was sworn into office. No one said democracy was pretty.

Bristol Palin Deserves Better

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have broken up. Republicans will continue to support abstinence-only education and make rants against fictional unwed mothers.

In 2007, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found unwed mothers made a record of 38.5 percent of all births. out-of-wedlock teenage pregnancies also spiked. The abstinence-only policy of the Bush administration was failing. Tony Perkins went in defense mode.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins expressed his worries and stated that the so-called comprehensive protective effect of condoms promotes unsafe behavior. This results in an increase in STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) rates in young people, and an increase in out-of-wedlock teenage pregnancies.

Tony Perkins said,” What we’re really witnessing are the effects of contraceptive-focused sex education, often labeled as comprehensive sex education”. Tony Perkins further comments, “When people talk about ‘abstinence until marriage,’ both parts are important”.

Columnist Maggie Gallagher was paid $21,500 by the Department of Health and Human Services to promote Bush's marriage initiative in 2002. Gallagher was paid to promote abstinence until marriage. The scandal would have gotten Gallagher fired from most American publications. (Tucker Carlson was booed by stating the need for the conservative media to have ethical standards.) Gallagher's editor Rich Lowry did not see any reason to fire Gallagher.

"We would have preferred that she told us, and we would have disclosed it in her bio." Lowry told Howard Kurtz.

Gallagher is writing for the Washington Times. She weighed in on Bristol Palin's Fox News interview.

Note: I wonder if Bristol really thinks sexual virtue is harder these days than it was, say, 30 years ago when her mom and I were teenagers. That would be circa 1979. I could tell Bristol some stories - the sexual revolution has been swinging pretty hard for a good long time now.

Gallagher goes on to write: "Is it really wise for an entire society to adopt the point of view of the average inarticulate 18-year-old kid?"

Did Gallagher actually watch the interview? I'm sure it was hard for Bristol to talk to a national television audience for the first time. Here were my thoughts about Bristol's interview.

I am glad Bristol Palin did the Fox News interview. She proved herself to be a very intelligent young woman. It was surprising to hear her say abstinence doesn't work. Bristol's mother, Sarah Palin supports abstinence-only sex education and has presidential ambitions. Bristol used her television time to tell other teens to wait before having a child.

Bristol has a good head on her shoulders. It is nice to see a real person and not a symbol for teen pregnancy. We need to understand issues affect the lives of Americans. The rhetoric of talk radio and cable news turns every issue into an us vs them event.

The abstinence-only advocates Perkins and Gallagher barely view young women, such as Bristol Palin, as real people. Gallagher's "I wonder if Bristol really thinks sexual virtue is harder these days" snark is evidence that social conservatives view unwed mothers with contempt. Miss Gallagher, Bristol Palin is the the one with the problem.

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council supports Mike Huckabee. Club For Growth's Pat Toomey is backing Rudy Giuliani. They proceed to tell Chris Matthews that the other guy's candidate is a liberal. Hilarity ensues.
