Underdog Challenges Vitter To Mixed Martial Arts Steel Cage Match
The Daily Advertiser reports independent candidate Mike Spears wants to open a can of whoop ass on Republican David Vitter to "restore the honor of Louisiana."
“Sen. Vitter’s behavior – his admission to breaking the law in 2007 – has insulted the honor of Louisiana and the Louisiana Senate seat,” Spears said.
“I’m in this race, and this fight, to restore the honor of Louisiana and of the nation as well.”
Spears vowed to take part in a three-round bout, regardless of whether Vitter accepts the challenge. USA-MMA will provide a standby fighter in case Vitter is absent, he said.
Don't hold your breath for Vitter to get the cage with Spears.
Vitter Confronted On Voting Against Amendment 2588
Sen. Al Franken was the sponsor of Amendment 2588, of the Defense Department bill. The amendment would allow female defense contractor employees, that were sexually assaulted, to take their cases to civil courts. Companies such as Halliburton and KBR would be forbidden from doing business with the military, if they continued to force sexually assaulted women into arbitration. Jamie Leigh Jones is the inspiration for the Franken amendment.
David Vitter and 29 other Republicans voted against Amendment 2588. A woman, at a townhall meeting, asked Vitter how could he vote against the Franken amendment. The woman tells Vitter she is a rape victim. Vitter briefly talks to her without answering the question. A true profile in courage.
WOMAN: It meant everything to me that I was able to put the person who attacked me [behind bars]. And what allowed me to do that was our judicial process. I showed up in court every day to make sure that happen VITTER: And I'm absolutely supportive of any case like that being prosecuted criminally to the full extent of the law.
WOMAN: But there are rape victims who are being kept silent.
WOMAN: But how can you support [a law] that tells a rape victim that she does not have the right to defend herself?
VITTER: Ma'am The language in question did not say that in any way shape or form.
WOMAN: But it is unconstitutional to have a law that says a woman does not have a right to defend herself.
VITTER: You realize Mr. Obama was against that amendment that his administration was against that amendment
WOMAN: But I'm not asking Obama. I'm asking you.
VITTER: Do you think he's in favor in rape?
WOMAN: I'm asking you Senator. What if it was your daughter who was raped? Would you tell her to be quiet and take it? Would you tell your daughter to be silent?
Does Vitter think this woman cares if President Obama agrees with him? Vitter looks at the world through partisan lenses. He can't vote without his party leaders telling him what to do. Vitter already has an image problem with women. Voting against the Franken amendment was political suicide.
Obama has been sending mix signals on the Franken amendment. If Obama doesn't support the amendment he deserves to get shit from women. Vitter's argues that if Democrat supports his wrongheaded position then it's okay if he is wrong. No, that just means two people are on the wrong side of the issue. We see which side the White House is on.
“It’s certainly not news to anyone that ACORN has been the subject of some controversy over the past year, and last year’s presidential election brought to light evidence of ACORN chapters engaging in fraudulent voter registration activities,” added Vitter. “They are currently under federal investigation, and this is simply not the sort of organization that should be funded by taxpayer dollars.”
I am not a fan of ACORN. That doesn't mean the attacks against ACORN haven't been outlandish. On the Senate floor, Vitter blames ACORN for the housing crisis. The Federal Reserve gave loans to Citigroup, Bank of America, JPMorganChase and Wachovia. These lending institutions got into trouble for giving mortages to people that couldn't pay. The banks were selling credit default swaps (derivatives) to create more income. The banks were over-leveraging on derivatives that were often worthless. Banks would engage in increasingly predatory lending practice to bring in more revenue. Economist Tyler Cowen wrote, "As much as 70 percent of recent early payment defaults had fraudulent misrepresentations on their original loan applications, according to one recent study." For Vitter to say ACORN is responsible for the subprime crisis is irresponsible.
Progressives are having fun noting ACORN was caught in a fake prositution stig by conservative activists Hannah Giles and James O'Keefe. Vitter has his very real prostitution scandal. Melanie Sloan, Executive Director, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, points out Vitter broke prositution laws in Washington, DC and Louisiana.

Conservative talk show host Chris Baker interviewed Republican Michele Bachmann. The Congresswoman declared the stimulus package is unconstitutional. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed both houses of Congress and signed by the President. To say a spending bill is unconstitutional is legally bogus.
Bachmann declared the stimulus package contains funding for ACORN.
Bachmann: I mean, if you think, ACORN - this is a group that's under Federal indictment... Baker: Unbelievable
Bachmann: ...for voter fraud. ACORN - they've received a total of $53 million in direct Federal Grants since 1994. Do you know how much they're getting under this (the stimulus) bill?
Education for the Disadvantaged $13,000,000,000 hmmm, Chicago and places like it? Can you say ACORN?
Free Republic accused Democrats of funding ACORN. Free Republic failed to quote the text in the bill. David "Sex Scandal" Vitter told Fox News the stimulus bill would provide money to non-profits. Therefore ACORN must be getting funding. Republicans need to have better attack dogs than Freepers, Bachmann and Vitter.
The ACORN attacks didn't work against Obama during the campaign. Republicans are desperate, if they believe a failed attack will work. I don't give a shit about ACORN and I follow politics. Republicans are kidding themselves if they think Americans will get worked up about ACORN.

"We're running out of rich people in this country."
People are angry at Wall Street and Bernard Madoff. Voters that can't pay their mortgages aren't going to be sympathetic with Bachmann's plea to save the rich. It is a politically suicidal message. The Republican establishment can not communicate with working people. John McCain campaigned on the words: "I think, still the fundamentals of our economy are strong." Bachmann is selling the same nonsense. Democrats need to hammer the economic message Bill Clinton delivered in 1992. Republicans can't compete on economics. That is why their opposition to the stimulus bill has been so intense.
