Why the Senate Makes Sense For Crist

I have been saying Crist would run for the Senate since last year. Crist can't govern Florida and never has never shown an interest in trying. Crist can't run for President with two terms of putting Florida in a deficit. Crist can leave now and blame the deficit on the national economy. He can serve one Senate term and run for president in 2016. It makes perfect sense.

Crist has no shot at the presidency with another term as governor. Do you honestly see Crist bucking his party or leaving with a surplus?

Why would Crist leave the governor's mansion to joining the Republican minority Senate?

Crist would still be a star. He is good with the media. Crist in less concerned with governing than Hardball appearances and rising up the ladder. He spent a great deal of time out-of-state attempting to become John McCain's vice-presidential candidate. If Crist wasn't thinking about the Senate he would have said he wasn't interested. He did the opposite.

Being governor didn't adavance Jeb Bush's, Mitt Romney's, Bill Richardson's or Mike Huckabee's presidential aspirations. The two major parties' presidential candidates were Senators. Crist can go to Washington and network with the national party. Going to D.C. could increase his chances of a presidential run. John Cornyn could have gone after Marco Rubio. Cornyn went after Crist because the national party needs a star in Washington.

The state's economy is based on tourism, construction and property taxes. Construction is down 4.2 percent. The December unemployment in Florida was 8.1 percent. University of Florida economist Dave Denslow predicts Florida's economy won't start recovering until 2011.

Florida Senate Republicans are talking about tax increases. Crist can stay and raise taxes, continue to borrow money or raid trust funds. Angering Grover Norquist will kill Crist with the base. Crist can choose to take pollitical hits to properly govern or he can go to Washington and maiuntain his anti-tax creditials. Crist will pick flight before picking a fight.
