Tea Party Nation Accuses First Lady of Slavery

Tea Party Nation blogger David DeGerolamo makes the outlandish claim that Michelle Obama is trying to make slaves out of American children.

One of the tenets in George Orwell's 1984 was "slavery is freedom". Michelle Obama yesterday told our children that higher education is freedom. According to CNNMoney:

"The average debt load for the class of 2012 was $29,400, according to a report released Wednesday by the Institute for College Access & Success' Project on Student Debt."

People also get loans from banks. I don't imagine that Mr. DeGerolamo is going to accuse Jamie Dimon of trying to make Americans slaves anytime soon.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren proposed low interest rate student loans through the Federal Reserve System. President Obama signed into law student loan reform. Republicans wanted to raise the interest rates on student loans. Republicans blocked legislation that would stop an increase in student loan interest rates.

WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked consideration of a Democratic bill to prevent the doubling of some student loan interest rates, leaving the legislation in limbo less than two months before rates on subsidized federal loans are set to shoot upward.

Along party lines, the Senate voted 52 to 45 on a key procedural motion, failing to reach the 60 votes needed to begin debating the measure. Senator Olympia J. Snowe, the moderate Republican from Maine who is retiring, voted present.
