If the legislature passed a death penalty law, I would sign it.
I support adequate funding for a strong public safety presence in Alaska. Feeling safe in our communities is something we cannot accept any compromise on. This includes policing in all its forms, the court system, prosecutors and corrections. If the legislature passed a death penalty law, I would sign it. We have a right to know that someone who rapes and murders a child or kills an innocent person in a drive by shooting will never be able to do that again.


You are opposed to abortion. You believe life begins at conception, and an abortion is the premeditated murder of an unborn child. The premeditated murder of any child is a heinous crime, and the murderer should get the Death Penalty, right?

Word Is Obama Asked Rahm Emanuel to Be His Chief of Staff

The AP reports Barack Obama approached Rahm Emanuel about being his Chief of Staff. Marc Ambinder doesn't see it happening.

Emanuel has been a regular behind-the-scenes adviser to Obama, knows everyone in Washington, is one of the better communicators in the party, and certainly is qualified for the post. But he's ... got a very strong personality that doesn't exactly jibe with the tone Obama likes to set for his endeavors. (David Plouffe and Rahm Emanuel could not be more different in temperament.) He also has a young family, and he has not moved them to Washington, and his hours as chief of staff would be hellish.

I don't see it happening because Nancy Pelosi is pushing to have Emanuel fill Obama's Senate seat. Jesse Jackson Jr. has been lobbying to fill the vacancy. Emanuel has more political capital within the party to make Governor Rod Blagojevich appoint him. Emanuel is fairly young and his star is rising. Chief of Staff would be a career dead end.

The British The Economist endorses Barack Obama. The editorial board are classical liberals. American libertarians have some similarities. ESQUIRE INTERVIEWS White Supremacists for Obama. Plus, one black separatist for McCain!

I didn't read the Esquire article because I'm not fascinated about which candidate racists will vote for. Reynolds is and I find that weird. I'm not someone that blogrolls and regularly links to hatemongering Little Green Footballs.

Reynolds states the United States should adopt a "more rubble, less trouble" Middle East policy, if the countries don't adopt the neoconservative version of democracy. Translation: bend to imperialism or die.

On the other hand, it's also true that if democracy can't work in Iraq, then we should probably adopt a "more rubble, less trouble" approach to other countries in the region that threaten us. If a comparatively wealthy and secular Arab country can't make it as a democratic republic, then what hope is there for places that are less wealthy, or less secular?

Reynolds is either a racist or openly condones genocide. Take your pick.

TALLAHASSEE, FL - Today the Florida Democratic Party joined two Florida citizens in taking legal action against the Republican Party of Florida and the Republican National Committee to prevent mass frivolous challenges against Florida voters in the presidential election.

"All Floridians who are eligible to vote deserve the opportunity to have their voices heard and their vote counted. That is our guiding principle, and we applaud the Governor's decision, which allows more Florida voters to exercise their right to vote.

"It is in this spirit that we ask the Governor, the Republican Party of Florida and the Republican National Committee to join us in preventing frivolous challenges against voters in this election by members of their party.

"We are confident that this action today will help prevent baseless and frivolous mass challenges. Florida voters should feel certain that the necessary steps have been taken to run an effective voting process and that their votes will be counted.

"I call on the Governor, the Republican Party and voters of all parties across the Sunshine State to disavow these dishonest tactics so that we can rebuild Florida's electoral integrity and maintain the rights of our citizens to vote in a fair and open election."

County Supervisors of Elections prefer to have voters correct their information.

"We're trying to avoid all provisional ballots, at all costs," Volusia County Supervisor Ann McFall said. "It's a lot of extra work."

Browning threatened Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Deborah Clark with legal action. Now the other counties are allowing voters to make corrections before voting. With Crist extending early voting hours, Browning is having a hard time obstructing voters.

Anderson Cooper reports that Joe the Plumber likely stood the McCain campaign up.

McCain aides called it a “miscommunication,” but once I got on the bus I called Wurzelbacher myself and asked him what really happened.

Hillsborough County Republican Party Hate Email

Hillsborough County Republican Party chairman David Storck forwarded an email he received from volunteer Ron Whitley. ""If you think it can help us win this election please pass it on," wrote Storek. If by help, Storek means placing racial fearmongering then mission accomplished. Storek at first attempted to defend the email.

"We need to get off our butts and vote, too."

Storek then backtracked: "It's one of hundreds of e-mails I sent out... It was a mistake."

How exactly is Obama going to curtail free speech? McCain supporters throw out asinine accusations without facts. Ad hominem attacks are all these people have. Obama's tax system is far from socialist. The middle class and poor will get better tax relief than under John McCain's tax plan.



The questions that should be asked is how is Obama and McCain plan on dealing with the deficit? What economic stimulus spending would they approve to boost the economy? The Economic Policy Institute released a graph showing that stimulus towards the poor have a greater positive impact on the economy.



It is unsurprising that food stamps would have a positive economic benefit. People need to eat. The Bush tax cuts are a proven loser. Wayne Huizenga can whine about the capital gains tax and being forced to sell 50 percent the Miami Dolphins for meager $500 million. I have blogged about how sports franchises have little positive economic impact on communities.

How is Obama going to drastically cut defense spending with two wars going on? Troops will be in Iraq most of Obama's first term. Obama wants to increase troop numbers in Afghanistan and launch cross border attacks into Pakistan, to find Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters. Sam Nunn said, "National missile defense has become a theology in the United States, not a technology." Obama has sent mixed signals about missile defense. McCain's own web site says:

This process gives Congressional committees less ability to closely scrutinize defense budget requests to ensure military funding is being budgeted wisely. It makes possible Congressional pork-barrel spending that diverts scarce defense resources to parochial home-state interests. And it allows the administration to add spending above that set by budget caps, bloating the federal deficit.

Conservatives fail to mention McCain proposing cuts in Defense pork. McCain has vowed to veto any bill that contains earmarks. Including defense spending.

A Congressional Budget Office study found the Iraq and Afghanistan wars will cost $2,400,000,000,000 by 2017. The cost is lowballed because the Defense Department's bookkeeping hasn't reported all expenses. At this rate, defense spending will continue to increase, regardless of what party is in the White House.

This is the entire informercial that aired tonight. It is very effective. The piece focuses on the economic crisis and the middle class. This is the message John McCain is incapable of making. People don't care about William Ayers when they are a paycheck away from being out on the streets.

The Phillies win game 5. The parade in Center City is going to be crazy. I was seriously conflicted about my loyalties during this series. I'm glad the Phillies won.

People don't understand what it means being a Philly sports fan. Every missed opportunity tears a piece of a fan's heart out. Philly fans are obsessive. And sometimes scary. I wish I could hit the Philly bars tonight. The town does know how to party. The Rays are a young franchise and will have other chances.

McCain Campaign Running Robocalls in Arizona

This is just too funny. The McCain camp are forced to home robocalls in Arizona. Someone is pushing the panic button. From the polling data, I don't see Obama winning the state.

Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga fears the socialism Barack Obama will unleash on America.

"He wants to double the capital gains tax, or almost double it," Huizenga said. "I'd rather give it to charity than to him."

The South Florida waste management king hit economic hard times this year. Huizenga was force to sell 50 percent of the Dolphins for a mere $500 million. The economic crisis hasn't prevent Mr. Huizenga from giving to Republicans. Newsmeat lists Huizenga as a McCain donor.

Joe the Plumber Now Joe the Fearmonger

Shepard Smith questioned Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher on why he believes a Barack Obama presidency will be the death of Israel.

SMITH: Joe, do you know Barack Obama’s positions on Israel?

WURZELBACHER: Listen, I know you wanna really get some answers on this one, I’m just not gonna help you out here, Shepherd. Let people go out and find, that’s what I’ve been telling people. […] Listen, you don’t want my opinion on foreign policy. I know just enough probably to be dangerous.

SMITH: Yeah, well that’s what I was kinda wondering.

Wurzelbacher campaigns for John McCain and accuses Obama of doing harm to Israel. Yet, he is above answering for his fearmongering. It is cowardly and there is no question that the McCain campaign endorses Wurzelbacher's statements. The campaign issued a press release supporting Wurzelbacher's statement.

While he’s clearly his own man, so far Joe has offered some penetrating and clear analysis that cuts to the core of many of the concerns that people have with Barack Obama’s statements and policies. … [T]here is good reason to question the judgement that Obama would bring to the Oval Office.

Wurzelbacher lamely stuck to the script about Obama talking to foreign enemies. The McCain campaign did an equally bad job prepping Wurzelbacher, as they did Palin. Here is Obama's position on Israel.

Ensure a Strong U.S.-Israel Partnership: Barack Obama and Joe Biden strongly support the U.S.-Israel relationship, believe that our first and incontrovertible commitment in the Middle East must be to the security of Israel, America's strongest ally in the Middle East. They support this closeness, stating that that the United States would never distance itself from Israel.

Support Israel's Right to Self Defense: During the July 2006 Lebanon war, Barack Obama stood up strongly for Israel's right to defend itself from Hezbollah raids and rocket attacks, cosponsoring a Senate resolution against Iran and Syria's involvement in the war, and insisting that Israel should not be pressured into a ceasefire that did not deal with the threat of Hezbollah missiles. He and Joe Biden believe strongly in Israel's right to protect its citizens.

Support Foreign Assistance to Israel: Barack Obama and Joe Biden have consistently supported foreign assistance to Israel. They defend and support the annual foreign aid package that involves both military and economic assistance to Israel and have advocated increased foreign aid budgets to ensure that these funding priorities are met. They have called for continuing U.S. cooperation with Israel in the development of missile defense systems.

The uncertified plumber accused Obama of being a Marxist.

"I'm honestly scared for America," Wurzelbacher said.

He later said Obama would end the democracy that the U.S. military had defended during wars.

"I love America. I hope it remains a democracy, not a socialist society. ... If you look at spreading the wealth, that's honestly right out of Karl Marx's mouth," Wurzelbacher said.

"No one can debate that. That's not my opinion. That's fact."

Joe won't answer questions when his statements are debatable. That is why "no one can debate that."

Ipdate: Joe the Plumber gets a manager. There is a possible country music album in the future.

“I think Joe is the voice of middle America,” Mr. Tippin said. “He’s not some made-up deal. He sees things from a common man’s point of view and is trying to do something good for this country, and that impresses me.”

Mr. Della Croce said he was even thinking of having Mr. Wurzelbacher record some music, perhaps a song or two of Mr. Tippin’s. “Joe is a hard-core country music fan, and he can carry a tune,” he said. “We’re not calling him anything, though, until we get him into a studio.”

Crist Says 'Internal Polling' Shows McCain Leading in Florida

Would a journalist please ask Charlie Crist to release the internal polling showing John McCain winning Florida?

“I’m hearing some very encouraging numbers, you know, some polls reporting [McCain] three or four points up already in the Sunshine State,” the governor said.

McCain may win Florida. Earlier this year, I thought Florida would stay red. That doesn't mean I am going to take the word of a McCain supporter. I don't expect Obama campaign manager David Plouffe to say anything, but Obama is winning. The media should call McCain and Obama supporters when they say they have "internal polling" that favors their candidate. If they can not provide the polling data then voters can rightfully question the truthfulness of these surrogates. I'm tired of the media not taking campaign surrogates to task and printing their quotes as the gospel truth.

Real Clear Politics shows John McCain dropping in the Florida polls. The latest Zogby poll has Barack Obama leading 47.2 percent to 46.9 percent. The margin of error makes the Zogby poll a toss up. The latest Fox News/Rasmussen poll Obama at 51 percent.

But this other site says "Those convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude under either state or federal law lose the right to vote in all elections while they are under sentence,including both the incarceration and probation or parole segments of a sentence." If he hasn't yet been sentenced, can he still vote even though he's a convicted felon?

Fair and Balanced: Barabara West Interview With Joe Biden

Barbara West of WFTV, in Orlando, did a right-wing hit job interview on Joe Biden. West compared Obama to Marx and asked Biden if Obama will turn America into a socialist country.

West said:"You may recognise this famous quote: 'from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs,' that's from Karl Marx.

"How is Senator Obama not being a Marxist if he intends to spread the wealth around?"

After a short pause Senator Biden replied: Are you joking...is this a joke...or is that a real question."

Turns out Ms. Todd lied about her story.

"This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Todd confessed to making up the story," the station says on its website. "The commander added that Todd will face charges; but police have not commented on what those charges will be."

This young woman needs psychiatric help. A presidential candidate isn't worth mutilating oneself. I'm aware that Todd is a staunch Republican, but other conservatives don't physically harm themselves to get their candidate elected.

I'm troubled by the conservative blogs reaction. Glenn Reynolds continues to believe his conspiracy theory that the media is 100 percent behind Democrats. His statement that the MSM would not cover this story proved to be wrong. The media loves of young white women in jeopardy. That is why so much unneeded coverage was given to the Runaway Bride.

Noel Sheppard of Newsbusters argued "the victim a young, black, Obama campaign volunteer", is disgusting. Study after study shown African Americans don't get a better deal in the Justice system. Furthermore, if the story was true, the attack would be morally reprehensible, regardless of race or party affiliation. Democrats and Republicans should be able to agree on that point. If not, then this country has serious problems and change needs to be more than a campaign slogan.

These bloggers ignored the Jamie Leigh Jones story and Sarah Palin rape kit controversy. They suddenly became women's right activists when a (false) mugging of a female McCain supporter of by alleged Obama supporter. I wouldn't think these bloggers were using the assault of a female for political means, if they didn't gleefully make fun of Jessica Valenti's breasts.

Compassionate Conservatism: Gay Marriage Equals Books

John Stemberger is using the slippery slope argument to scare voters into voting yes for amendment 2. If you don't vote to make gay marriage, in florida, illegal than kids will be forced to read books promoting the gay lifestyle.

A Massachusetts couple, Robb and Robin Wirthlin, appeared with Stemberger and others at a press conference this morning promoting Amendment 2.

The Wirthlins said they were dismayed to learn that their son's second-grade teacher read from a book, King and King, in which a prince falls in love with and marries another prince after rejecting a series of princesses.

Passage of amendment 2 wouldn't prevent children from reading certain material. That is an education issue. Robb and Robin Wirthlin have come forward against Prop 8. The Wirthlins lost their court case against the school. What is little known is the "Wirthlins were members of a political organization pressing for an amendment to the Massachusetts Constitution that would ban same-sex marriage before the teacher read the book King and King to their son."

Why the Withlins lost the lawsuit.

In the suit, the Wirthlins said the school was attempting to indoctrinate their children about an "immoral lifestyle." The suit complained that school officials bypassed their parental rights to raise their children how they wish, and in doing so, violated their civil rights.

The Wirthlins lost their legal battle - the U.S. Supreme Court just declined to hear the case, letting the lower court ruling stand - but they are far from losing the war. They are part of the out-of-state effort by the Mormon Church, whose members have contributed millions of dollars to the Yes on 8 war chest, to pass Prop 8

The Wirthlins think gays and lesbians are immoral. Watch the video and see how the they bend over backwards to appear tolerate.



The school did not have to inform the Wirthlins. The couple did not challenge that in their suit. Contrary to their claims in the video. Robin Withlin proclaims she would rather keep her child ignorant than inform him about homosexuality. Keeping a child uneducated is not good parenting.

Conservatives that believe the King and King should be banned in schools do not support free speech. Reading black lists and book burning has been assiociated with the most dangerous fringes of society. Religious conservatives making laws to control consenting adults' sexuality is pure totalarism. Once people lose the choice of whom to sleep with or what to read, bye, bye freedom.

It is interesting how many Florida seats are in play. Contrary to Kenneth Quinnell's Florida Democratic Party spin, Gus Bilirakis is not in trouble.

Former Minnasota Governor Arme Carlson (R) came down hard on Michele Bachmann, in her endorsement of Barack Obama. Bachmann should go up to rank 4.

On the Democratic side, Tim Mahoney is toast.

Scott McClellan Endorses Barack Obama

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan endorsed Barack Obama. The endorsement took place during a taping of D.L. Hughley’s new show.

"From the very beginning I have said I am going to support the candidate that has the best chance for changing the way Washington works and getting things done and I will be voting for Barack Obama," McClellan said during the interview, which was taped for the Saturday broadcast of a new CNN show, "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News."

It's the hip thing for Republicans to endorse Obama. John McCain will always have the Joe Lieberman endorsement.

Mark Steyn: Conspiracy Theory Man

I got into an online feud with the National Review's Mark Steyn. The conservative pundit made fun of torture and Andrew Sullivan's sexual orientation. I called Steyn on it. Steyn linked to the post and the NRO trolls came out from their rocks. I responded by writing on NRO's recent history of bizarre gay bashing. I don't think highly of Steyn.

The latest silliness from Steyn is the media is dragging "Obama across the finish line" and the GOP's GOTV will lead McCain to victory. Because the free market prefers McCain. Apparently, Steyn has polling data no other person on the planet possesses.

The reason the press are going to such shameless lengths to drag Obama across the finish line is because he's their last best hope at restoring the old media environment, including a new Unfairness Doctrine for radio, and regulation of the Internet. The Obama's-already-won-give-it-up-you-GOP-losers stories are intended only to demoralize turnout. Bear in mind, that round about 5pm Eastern on Election Day, they'll be doing those stories at industrial strength, in order to clobber any Republican voters still dumb enough to think it's worth making the trip to the polls. A good GOTV operation will not only lead to political victory but assure that the free market gets to pronounce the final judgment on the media conduct of this election.

Steyn has a conspiracy theory that the media needs Obama to stay in business. In Steyn's Nixonian head, the internet will be state-controlled. The Fairness Doctrine gave equal time to both political sides. President Reagan ended the Fairness Doctrine. Conservative talk radio flourished with the equal time rule gone. I wrote, "If media is really slanted to the left then why aren't conservative attempting to restore the Fairness Doctrine?" The question answers itself.

Steyn proclaims that a potential Obama landslide is because of the media suppressing votes. A McCain victory will be the power of the free market. Meaning, the will of the people. Of course, an Obama victory would be voters prefering his brand of politics. Voter polling shows McCain as New Coke. A heavily hyped product that bombed in the marketplace. Only an irrationale conspirary theorist would promote this garbage.

When the figures fail him, Steyn falls back on urban mythology. After the 9/11 massacres, in his Daily Telegraph column he repeated as fact preposterous claims that Muslim children all over New York had warned their favourite teachers not to go to the World Trade Centre that day. Here, he says, "On the night of September 11th Muslim youths in northern England rampaged through the streets cheering Islam's glorious victory over the Great Satan. They pounded on the hoods of the cars, hammered the doors and demanded the drivers join them in the chants of 'Osama Bin Laden is a great man.'"

Steyn's book "America Alone: The End of the World As We Know It" proclaims that Muslims will take over Europe by 2020 and rename the continent Eurabia. The welfare state and birth rates will help Muslims get enough recruits for their secret army.

Big government is a national security threat: it increases your vulnerability to threats like Islamism, and makes it less likely you'll be able to summon the will to rebuff it.

Doug Saunders disbunked Steyn's allegation's that the European Muslim population will be 40 percent by 2020.

The great sine qua non of Mr. Steyn's argument is the idea that Muslims have more children than the rest of us. His article is based on a claim he has made repeatedly, including in a bestselling book, that Europe will have a plurality of Muslims, perhaps 40 per cent of the population, by 2020.

This number appears to have been plucked from space. Here's the reality, which you can easily look up: Slightly more than 4 per cent of Europe's population is “Muslim,” as defined by demographers (though about 80 per cent of these people are not religiously observant, so they are better defined as secular citizens who have escaped religious nations).

It is possible, though not certain, that this number could rise to 6 per cent by 2020. If current immigration and birth rates remain the same, it could even rise to 10 per cent within 100 years.

Steyn is motivated by xenophobia and conspiracy theories. The best venue for Steyn's views in a white supremist rally. Steyn repeatedly claimed he is not a racist. I'm interested in how he will handle an Obama victory.

No Match, No Vote

Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Deborah Clark deserves credit for having her poll workers recheck applications, so voters would not have to cast provisional ballots. The No Match, No Vote requires that name, last four digits of a social security card and Florida ID match the voter application. If not, the potential voter either doesn't vote or has to vote by provisional ballot. Florida Sec. of State Kurt Browning responded by threatening legal action against Clark.

Karl Rove and the Republican Party have pushed voter fraud. The Bush administration politized the Justice Department. US Attorneys were fired for not being aggressive enough on voter fraud.

The Justice Department demanded that one U.S. attorney, Todd P. Graves of Kansas City, resign in January 2006, several months after he refused to sign off on a Justice lawsuit involving the state's voter rolls, Graves said last week. U.S. Attorney Steven M. Biskupic of Milwaukee also was targeted last fall after complaints from Rove that he was not doing enough about voter fraud. But he was spared because Justice officials feared that removing him might cause political problems on Capitol Hill, according to interviews of Justice aides conducted by congressional staff members.

"There is reason for worry and suspicion at this point as to whether voting fraud played an inappropriate role in personnel decisions by the department," said Daniel P. Tokaji, an election law specialist at Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law.

In 2007, a New York Times article revealed the Justice Department investigation investigation found no voter fraud conspiracy. What is at work is repressing voter turnout. The McCain campaign is terrified ACORN is registering young voters (that will probably vote for Obama.) So they accuse ACORN is involve in a voting fraud conspiracy. ACORN's problem was a few greedy people getting paid by the application. Most improper voter registration forms are new voters making human error. Republicans believe young people and the undereducated will not vote for their party. So, the GOP disenfranchises these voters. That is why there is a No Match, No Vote law.

Rove using voter fraud allegations to help his candidate Perry Hooper.

Rove had other plans, and immediately moved for a recount. "Karl called the next morning," says a former Rove staffer. "He said, 'We came real close. You guys did a great job. But now we really need to rally around Perry Hooper. We've got a real good shot at this, but we need to win over the people of Alabama.'" Rove explained how this was to be done. "Our role was to try to keep people motivated about Perry Hooper's election," the staffer continued, "and then to undermine the other side's support by casting them as liars, cheaters, stealers, immoral—all of that." (Rove did not respond to requests for an interview for this article.)

The campaign quickly obtained a restraining order to preserve the ballots. Then the tactical battle began. Rather than focus on a handful of Republican counties that might yield extra votes, Rove dispatched campaign staffers and hired investigators to every county to observe the counting and turn up evidence of fraud.

That is GOP voting fraud in a nutshell.

An internal GOP email has been leaked to Paul Bedard of Washington Whispers. House Republicans are expected to lose a possible 34 seats. Republicans only have three Democratic seats that are "hopeful" to turn red.

In the Senate, Republicans expect to maintain 44 seats. Obama will have a Democratic majority. Republicans will still be able to filibuster.

Voters were asked about William Ayers and ACORN. Most people are not aware of the John McCain attacks about Ayers and ACORN. Those that are said (by large margins) it will not affect their vote. Virginia polled most strongly that Ayers and ACORN were not a major issue. The numbers suggest Obama has Virginia wrapped up.

Conservatives will say that McCain should have pounded Ayers and ACORN harder. The problem is McCain's campaign has been nothing, but negative attacks. Voters want to know what McCain will do for the country. A candidate that constantly shifts positions does not instill confidence. Instead of running on substance, McCain has been attacking which baseball team will Obama root for. Voters want someone who will govern. Not pander.

Kathy Castor Endorses Kevin Beckner

No surprise here. Kathy Castor has been an early backer of Hillsborough County Commission candidate Kevin Beckner.

Feinstein and Kohl Want GOA To Investigate Florida Voting

United States Senators Dianne Feinstein and Herb Kohl Florida to allow the Government Accountability Office to investigate Miami-Dade, Broward, Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. There is a question of the quality of access for elderly and diabled people to voting precincts. Secretary of State Kurt Browning has refused to allow the GAO into the counties. Florida is the only state that refused to let the GOA investigate.

Feinstein is disappointed of Browning's decision.

"It is vitally important that the GAO be allowed to study our nation’s election system, especially in Florida, where so many seniors live," Feinstein said. "Once again, Florida will be crucial to the outcome of the presidential election."

What is Browning's excuse? Senior citizens are going to commit voter fraud, if there are more wheelchair ramps. Seriously

Palin: VP 'In Charge of United States Senate'

A Vice-President has a really great job, because not only not only are they there to support the President's agenda. They are like the team member, the teammate to that President. But also, they're in charge of the United States Senate.

The Vice-President's only role in the Senate is as the tiebreaking vote and counting electoral ballots. The later is a formality. It is disgraceful that Palin doesn't even know the duties of the job she is running for.

The framers also devoted scant attention to the vice president's duties, providing only that he "shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be evenly divided" (Article I, section 3). In practice, the number of times vice presidents have exercised this right has varied greatly. John Adams holds the record at 29 votes, followed closely by John C. Calhoun with 28. Since the 1870s, however, no vice president has cast as many as 10 tie-breaking votes. While vice presidents have used their votes chiefly on legislative issues, they have also broken ties on the election of Senate officers, as well as on the appointment of committees in 1881 when the parties were evenly represented in the Senate.

The vice president's other constitutionally mandated duty was to receive from the states the tally of electoral ballots cast for president and vice president and to open the certificates "in the Presence of the Senate and House of Representatives," so that the total votes could be counted (Article II, section 1). Only a few happy vice presidents — John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Van Buren, and George Bush — had the pleasure of announcing their own election as president. Many more were chagrined to announce the choice of some rival for the office.

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well,'' Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

Uncle Rush defended the pro-apartheid South African government and Nelson Mandela only became president to benefit Democrats. Ditto Darfur. Rush is the only person that actually believes the Democrats have a strong commitment to doing a damn thing about Darfur.

"They want to get us out of Iraq but they can't wait to get us into Darfur," comedian explained. "What color is the skin of the people in Darfur," he asked rhetorically. "It's black. And who do the Democrats really need to continue voting for them, if they lose a significant percentage of this voting bloc they're in trouble." Wait, I haven't gotten to the best part yet. "So you go into Darfur," comedian added, "and you go into South Africa, you get rid of the white government there. You put sanctions on them. You stand behind Nelson Mandela."

What would the world look like if everyone behaved like Rush Limbaugh.

RNC Spent $150,000 On Palin's Clothes

The Republican National Committee spent $150,000 on clothing and makeup for Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Included in the expensives are shopping trips to Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a $49,425.74 price tag. $4,716.49 was spent on hair and makeup. The most staggering expense was a $75,062.63 shopping frenzy at Neiman Marcus.

It is no surpise that the McCain campaign has refused to comment.

"The campaign does not comment on strategic decisions regarding how financial resources available to the campaign are spent," campaign spokewoman Maria Comella told Politico.

I'm sure the conservative pundits and bloggers that went after John Edwards's $400 haircut will put this story under equal scrutiny.

Fighting In Afghanistan

Lara Logan reports from a U.S. military base near the Pakistan border. Army soldiers have seen a spike in intense fighting. Many of the enemy combatants are foreigners and supported by a local tribal leader.
