This has been MSNBC policy no matter where their political "news" host flavor-of-the-month leans. Remember when they tried to outfox Fox by hiring people like Michael Savage? Or when they had Phil Donahue? Both were fired, of course. MSNBC even canned Olbermann before hiring him again -- if anyone remembers "The Big Show".
The real problem is that no one MSNBC as ever hired can take on Fox in the ratings war. Olbermann was the current "most highly rated" show on the network, but O'Reilly still trumped him day after day, month after month, and year after year. That's the brutal reality. I know people want to think MSNBC suddenly adopted an anti-left agenda, but really, they just moved on and try another host who might do better. Olbermann was loved by some, but for all intents and purposes as far as ratings go, he failed.
