Newt's out of the running
A couple Sundays ago, Michael reported that Newt Gingrich was thinking seriiously about running for president -- something whiich I've expected since the GOP field is so weak. Hell, Fred Thompson, the supposed savior of the Republican field, couldn't even raise more money than John McCain, whose campaign was dead in the water a couple months ago. Now that's weak. But anyways, I was hoping that Newt would run, win the GOP nomination, and then get absolutely crushed in the general election. Alas, Newt probably realized this would happen... He is a historian, after all. I imagine he has a sense of how the American electorate is trending in the current reality. And the wave is not breaking towards his side.
So Newt would rather run a 527/think tank type thing. He's out.
