Republican Presidential Candidates For Florida Offshore Drilling
Rudy Giuliani has just made a statement Florida Democrats should pounce on. He came out for being open to the idea of drilling for oil off of Florida's coast.
"Energy independence means everything has to be open for discussion," Giuliani said when asked about offshore drilling. "The idea of having more oil under our command, so to speak, or within our orbit probably for some period of time is going to be important. The ultimate goal, however, should be renewable sources of energy."
Florida's congressional delegation has been fighting attempts to open more of the Gulf of Mexico to drilling, saying they are concerned spills could damage the environment and tourism.
Mitt Romney also supports offshore drilling.
"If we don't do it, Castro will." He later added, "Clearly to have a foreign country drilling in waters that are off our coast doesn't make a lot of sense, but it does make sense, in my view, for us to develop our natural resources hereā¦"
American should do something just because Fidel Castro wants to do it. Interesting logic. The United States has 3 percent of the world's oil. Drilling offshore or in Alaska will not stop the demand for oil.
