Question of the Day

Barack Obama is using Yahoo! Answer to pose this question:

How can we engage more people in the democratic process?

I thought about this during the poor turnout during the Tampa City Council election. The last thing we should do is lecture people to go and vote. That makes the democratic process sounds as desirable as a dentist appointment. The advsertising and PR industries certainly don't use that approach. Alienating people will not bring new potential voters.

What needs to be done is making new information available. An informed public will be more engaged and make better decisions. Gatordem has discussed talking to people about how issues affect their lives.

Readers, tell me how people can become more engaged in politics.
