Signs

I think we have a good idea of how Judge Janet E. Ferris will rule on at polling precincts for Joe Negron.

"Our Legislature very clearly said our ballots shall not be changed," Ferris said. ‘‘I'm not at liberty to engraft any words in the statutes... that would be an activist judge position and I'm not going to go there."

Philosophically, Republicans should have the right to put Negron's name on the ballot. The law stating that names on ballots can't be changed 21 days before the election is shortsighted. What if a candidate dies or resigns like Mark Foley did? That doesn't mean I'm shedding tears for Negron. Even if he was on the ballot, he is still behind in the latest South Florida Sun-Sentinel poll. CQPolitics.com rates the District 16 race as leaning Democrat.

What I don't like is Republicans using tax dollars to inform voters about Negron's candidacy. That's the Republican Nation Committee's job. Department of Defense Federal Voting Assistance Program has been running an email campaign. No conservative blogger could argue with a straight face that the Department of Defense, under this White House, would do the same for a Democrat. Either use tax dollars to educate voters about candidates of all political parties or not at all.
