Crist Screws Up, Davis Screws Up Even More

We constantly hear how Charlie Crist is such a great politician. This is the same man who lost to Bob Graham by 26 percent. The reason Crist has been doing so well in the polls is his campaign staff and Jim Davis's bubbling. Whenever Crist opens his mouth he gets in trouble. His flip-flipping on abortion is a prime example.

Crist was asked by a Catholic priest if he would would sign an abortion ban simular to South Dakota. Crist answered, "Yes I would." He later backtracked.

"Promoting a culture of life is preferable to me than passing laws."

Crist also showed an ignorance to the FACTS about the FCAT. Crist was elected Education Commissioner in 2000. His lack of knowledge about the FCAT is inexcusable.

Then there was Crist throwing supporter Alex Villalobos to the wolves. Villalobos voted against Jeb Bush's on school class-size and vouchers. Citizens have voted reduced class sizes into the Florida Constitution. Bush's voucher program has proved unpopular and ruled unconstitutional by the Florida Supreme Court. The reason being, Jeb refused to test private schools and hold them equally accountable.

Bush wanted payback on Villalobos. Hear is how Crist responded.

Question: "Villalobos: Good Republican?"
Crist: "Yeah."
Q: "Are you going to show your support for him down there? He’s in kind of a tough race."
Crist: "Yeah (pause for three seconds)... I’m in a tough race, that’s the one I’m trying to stay focused on."

A profile in courage.

Villalobos was re-elected without Crist's help.

Crist had his latest campaign bludder that his staff had to rescue him from. Crist told voters that he would support a California-style Proposition 13 to cap property taxes. Then hilarity ensued.

"He was not suggesting Prop 13," said campaign press spokeswoman Erin Isaac. "He's saying we must work through the Legislature for comprehensive tax reform, and if we can't get it out of the Legislature, he'll lead the charge to amend the constitution."

Let me refresh Miss Isaac's memory. This is what Crist said.

"There was a similar scenario in California quite a number of years ago, and I believe it was Prop 13. The people rose up and amended their constitution in California to stop the bleeding.

"If I have the honor of serving as your next governor and the Legislature doesn't put this on the ballot, I will lead the charge to amend the constitution to stop this insanity."

Crist constantly inserts his foot in his mouth and Jim Davis never calls him on it. Crist supplies so much ammo. Davis is incapable of pulling the trigger. Back on in May, I wrote, "Another Buddy MacKay is not what Democrats need." I knew that if Davis won the nomination that it was over.

Meet the new Buddy. Same as the old Buddy.
