Cracking Jokes Like A Thurston Moore

Gimme Indie Rock by Sebadoh is one of the greatest independent punk singles of all-time. Lou Barlow sarcasticly name-checks his fellow indie rockers of the era. The song also serves as a document of punk turning into grudge. Barlow sings of "sludge rock" and the commercial ambitions of Sonic Youth and Husker Du. Those bands got signed. Barlow's band wasn't at the time at the release. Barlow also fires a missive at his old band Dinosaur Jr. It's nice to see Barlow wasn't bitter.

A band that made the sludge rock album Bleach would change the playing field. Ofcourse, we're talking about Nirvana. Gimme Indie Rock serves as a musically historical bridge from the get-in-the-van underground that turned into the Alternative Nation. It doesn't hurt that the song rocks as hard as MC5's Kick Out the Jams.

Paper Thin Walls as an MP3 of Gimme Indie Rock Go "peddle hop" over there "like a dinosaur Jr".

Wonderful inspiration to listen to Harmacy and Bakesale. I always did prefer Sebadoh to Dinosaur Jr., though "Freak Scene" is one heck of a song.
