The Importance of Journalistic Standards

If Florida had conserative bloggers that was more interested in following local news than linking to InstaPundit than they would jump all over the Buddy Nevins story. They're outrage would be a sight to behold. Never mind, they never mention the horrible journalism ethics of Fox News or the Weekly Standard. Ethics only matter to them when the media tells them news they don't want to hear.

Nevins was taken off covering the Governor's race when he publicly endorsed Charlie Crist at the Republican Club. South Florida Sun-Sentinel Earl Maucker writes, "In today's world, where there is such righteous indignation and partisan radicalism, there is no room for questionable judgment or even the perception of a conflict. Our first obligation is to be open and honest with our readers about why we are making a change." That certainly is better than the Tampa Tribune shitcanning of Tom McEwen used his connections as a sports writer to get a travel agency from George Steinbrenner. McEwen then used that agency to book road arrangements for the Lighting and Buccaneers. McEwen lied to the Trib about contining to do business with the Lightning. After an Editor and Publisher article, the Trib had to be rid of McEwen. The Trib has still never acknowledged McEwen's travel agency.

That is why it is important that the South Florida Sun-Sentinel comes clean.
