Jim Davis & Rod Smith Fundraising

Looks like we have a real two-way race for the Democratic nomination to be Florida's next governor. Rod Smith is closing the fundraising gap with Jim Davis.

Last week, the Davis campaign sent quotes to reporters suggesting that Smith would be in trouble if Davis raised twice as much money as Smith. The Davis campaign seemed to be counting on the fact that Smith could not raise money during the session.

Davis has raised more than $2.2 million for his campaign and had $1.57 million left as of March 31, according to his campaign.

Smith has raised more than $1.9 million and had $1.33 million left as of March 31, according to his campaign.

Davis said he is eligible to receive more than $760,000 in taxpayer money for his campaign from the state's election fund. Smith said he is eligible to receive more than $600,000 from the state fund.

That was a stupid move on the part of the Davis campaign. If you say your opponent has fundraising problems then you better make it stick. The one thing that kills Davis's credibility, for me, is he gerrymandered his district. Districts are suppose to be square and contour. District 11 looks like a bad acid trip.

How did Davis gerrymander his district? The Republican controlled state legislature drew those lines. You need to go back and read the article you link to.

Haha. Yeah. If anyone gerymandered anything, it was Rod Smith, who drew his own district. The state legislature draws all the state and federal legislative districts in the state. Members of congress have nothing to do with the process.

Democrats have worked with Repoublicans to keep their Districts safe. Davis has been very quiet about the redistricting efforts. With good reason. Davis's district was the safest in Florida. He could havew held on to his seat for life.
