Drive-By Truckers - Birthday Boy

A lyrical masterpiece from Mike Cooley about a sex worker.

Drive-by Truckers - The Living Bubba (World AIDS Day)

Today is World AIDS Day. Thanks to Obamacare, health insurance companies can no longer deny coverage to people with the HIV virus.

Patterson Hood wrote the song The Living Bubba for the late musican Gregory Dean Smalley. The founder of the Bubbapaooza music festival in Atlanta, Smalley died of AIDS. Smalley played gigs in several different bands until his death. The Living Bubba is a tribute to Smalley continuing to play music until his final days.

I wake up tired and I wake up pissed
wonder how I ended up like this
I wonder why things happen like they do

I'm sick at my stomach from the A.Z.T.
Broke my bank cause that shit ain't free
but I'm here to stay (at least another week or two)
I can't die now cause I got another show to do

Drive-By Truckers - Feb 14

It is not Valentine's Day but this is still a great song.

Drive-By Truckers - Marry Me

These opening lyrics are brutal in its honesty.

Well, my daddy didn’t pull out, but he never apologized
Rock and Roll means well, but it can’t help tellin’ young boys lies.

Drive-By Truckers - Where The Devil Don't Stay

A song about bootlegging during the depression. A lyric from the song that is still true today.

The only blood that's any cleaner is the blood that's blue or greener
Without either you just get meaner and the blood you gave gives you away

Drive-By Truckers - Wallace

A song about the Devil welcoming segregationist George Wallace into hell. The song is from the album Southern Rock Opera. To say the album is brilliant is an understatement.
