Pelosi supporters were wondering why the two-term Shuler — who voted against many of the Democrats' top legislative priorities, including healthcare reform — was qualified for the position.
There isn't much use having a Democrat who voting against the party as minority leader. Shuler could also be voted out in the next election. 22 of the 46 Blue Dog Coalition members were voted out this year. It makes no sense to have the Democratic House Minority Leader be vulnerable. Tom Daschle in the Senate is a perfect example of a horrible caucus leader who was voted out.
The media was portraying Pelosi as dead and Shuler as the heir apparent. The media was quoting Republicans by saying Democrats must listen to the voters by not making Pelosi minority leader. Fact: Pelosi was re-elected this year. Another fact: the Republicans want the most incompetent Democrat to be running the caucus. Heath Shuler fits the bill.
I have no problem with John Boehner as the Republican's leader because he is horrible on television, viewed as lazy, and hated by the Tea Party. I should be taken as seriously on who should be the Republican's House leader as Michael Steele opinions on Democratic leadership.
