Shocking News: Bush Lied About NSA Program

"The privacy of all Americans is fiercely protected in all our activities. The government does not listen to domestic phone calls without court approval."

George W. Bush

The key word is "listen". The NSA is data tracking phone numbers called. The calls were monitered without FISA court approval.

"It's the largest database ever assembled in the world," said a person familiar with the program.

The administration already had the crash and burn surveillance programs Operation TIP and Total Information Awareness Office. The latter gets extra points for it's creepy logo. These are very paranoid people in the White House. They didn't pay attention "Bin Laden Prepared to Strike" PDB or FEMA's pre-Katrina warning. Yet, they are insanely fixiated on finding out who law abidding Americans are calling. Wake me up when when Bush heads back to Texas.

"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security."

Benjamin Franklin

Update: from a horrible Tampa Tribune op-ed. (Is there any other kind?)

As Sen. Jon Kyl, Arizona Republican, said of complaints about the program: "This is nuts. We are in war. We have got to collect intelligence on the enemy, and you can't tell the enemy how you're going to do it."

I wasn't aware we declared war on the American people.
