News Flash: Afforable Care Act is Constitutional

I love the fact that Republicans in the Florida Senate are arguing that the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional.

Members of the group, including “tea-party” activists, said the law known as “Obamacare” is an unconstitutional overreach by Washington. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld most of the law in June, which has led to state lawmakers considering whether to carry out portions such as an expansion of Medicaid eligibility and creation of a health-insurance exchange.

The Supreme Court ruled that the mandate is constitutional.

Ultimately, the Court upholds the individual mandateas a proper exercise of Congress’ power to tax and spend“for the . . . general Welfare of the United States.”

The majority of the Supreme Court ruled that Congress has to right to make citizens pay a tax for not complying with the health care mandate. It is disturbing that Republicans in the Florida Senate were shouting on the floor with false claims about ACA being unconstitutional. This is settled law. The fact that Florida lawmakers don't understand law they are discussing shows willful ignorance. Voters should stop electing people this stupid.

Update: the tea party insanity from the floor of the Florida Senate.

"We will not comply with this unlawful mandate," Pastor James Hall of the Baptist Coalition of North Florida said to rousing applause.

This people are basing their contempt for the Affordable Care Act that does not conform with reality. When these people are reminded that ACA is constitutional they go ballistic.

Democratic Senate Minority leader Chris Smith was booed when he reminded the crowd that the federal government stepped in to uphold justice in civil rights cases.

The conservative movement is fighting a battle against reality. Reality is going to win.
