Former GOP House Majority Leader Tom Delay has been sentenced to three years in jail for money laundering and conspiracy.
Update: Delay is free on bond and will appeal.
"This is an abuse of power. It's a miscarriage of justice, and I still maintain that I am innocent. The criminalization of politics undermines our very system and I'm very disappointed in the outcome," DeLay told reporters outside the courtroom. He remains free on bond, and his sentencing was tentatively set to begin on Dec. 20.
Actually, Congress and state legislatures have spent years watering down corruption laws. Congress was quick to get rid of Abscam. Delay screwed up really bad to be prosecuted in Republican Texas for money laundering of political contributions.
