Grayson Against Afghanistan Surge

Alan Grayson is breaking with President Barack Obama on Afghanistan.

“Isn’t it more important to make sure 47 million Americans can go see a doctor when they need to, than it is send our young men and women across an ocean and across a continent to fight who knows what,” he said in a press conference. “Isn’t it more important to spend our money on schools instead of bullets?”

I wonder how long it is until other Democrats started breaking ranks. I originally supported Gen. McChrystal additional troop request. Obama's confusing West Point speech changed my opinion. I don't believe Obama thinks Afghanistan is worth fighting for. The President sent troops for his political survival. It is hard to respect a man that places his re-election hopes above the lives of young men and women in uniform.

I was hoping we'd might see a president who isn't afraid of Republicans attacking him. Or somebody intelligent enough to realize that Republicans will attack Democrats anytime for anything.

For some reason, I always reflect upon the case of Ward Churchill... The former Uni. Colorado professor who was so far to the left that even the Green Party didn't pay attention to him. But the Republicans needed something to complain about, dug up a few of his quotes, and proceeded to apply the philosophy of Ward Churchill to Democrats and Progressives as a whole. I mean, I don't know how emphatically I can state this, but before the right attacked him nobody gave a flying fuck about Ward Churchill.

But the Republicans, always in offensive mode, needed to attack the left with something; anything. They'll just make shit up if need be.

Why is it so difficult for Democrat politicians to realize that they will never get this current crop of Republicans to work with them?
