Quote of the Day

"If the logic of the mandate is that this only works if there's one giant pool, then what's the logic of the state opt-out?"

David Waldman, aka KagroX

To answer David's question: opting out of the mandates is another way for Republicans to use the states' rights argument to kill health care reform. I have philosophical problems with making laws requiring every American to buy health insurance. It seems intrusive. My fiscal concern is with no public option, every American would be forced to buy priovate insurance. This would create a greater dependency on the insurance companies. Once private insurers get the mandates, it will be hard to get the companies to lower premiums.
