TALLAHASSEE -- After hearing CFO and State Fire Marshall Alex Sink address their 65th Annual Convention in Orlando this afternoon, Florida's firefighters and emergency medical services personnel enthusiastically endorsed Sink for Governor of Florida in the 2010 election.
The Florida Professional Firefighters, Inc. represents 24,000 full-time, paid professional firefighters and emergency medical services personnel around the state and was first organized in 1944 under the International Association of Fire Fighters.
"Florida's firefighters are proud to endorse Alex Sink as Florida's next governor," said FPF President Bob Carver. "Alex Sink has worked with firefighters to make Florida a safer place to work and live. She understands what law enforcement needs to keep the people of Florida safe, and she is the leader we need to face our current challenges."
As State Fire Marshal, Alex Sink leads the state division responsible for investigating arson crimes. Each year, the Division of State Fire Marshal analyzes more than 10,000 pieces of evidence and investigates more than 4,000 fires annually. Sink's fire investigators make arrests in 18 percent of the cases they investigate, higher than the national average. The Division of State Fire Marshal also certifies and trains firefighters around the state, and inspects 14,000 state-owned buildings annually.
"It takes courage to answer the call to be a firefighter, and it has been an honor to work with these heroes," said Alex Sink. "These brave men and women selflessly put their lives at risk every day to protect Floridians around the state, and I'm proud and humbled to have earned their support."
