I have been saying Crist would run for the Senate since last year. Crist can't govern Florida and never has never shown an interest in trying. Crist can't run for President with two terms of putting Florida in a deficit. Crist can leave now and blame the deficit on the national economy. He can serve one Senate term and run for president in 2016. It makes perfect sense.
Crist has no shot at the presidency with another term as governor. Do you honestly see Crist bucking his party or leaving with a surplus?
Why would Crist leave the governor's mansion to joining the Republican minority Senate?
Crist would still be a star. He is good with the media. Crist in less concerned with governing than Hardball appearances and rising up the ladder. He spent a great deal of time out-of-state attempting to become John McCain's vice-presidential candidate. If Crist wasn't thinking about the Senate he would have said he wasn't interested. He did the opposite.
Being governor didn't adavance Jeb Bush's, Mitt Romney's, Bill Richardson's or Mike Huckabee's presidential aspirations. The two major parties' presidential candidates were Senators. Crist can go to Washington and network with the national party. Going to D.C. could increase his chances of a presidential run. John Cornyn could have gone after Marco Rubio. Cornyn went after Crist because the national party needs a star in Washington.
The state's economy is based on tourism, construction and property taxes. Construction is down 4.2 percent. The December unemployment in Florida was 8.1 percent. University of Florida economist Dave Denslow predicts Florida's economy won't start recovering until 2011.
Florida Senate Republicans are talking about tax increases. Crist can stay and raise taxes, continue to borrow money or raid trust funds. Angering Grover Norquist will kill Crist with the base. Crist can choose to take pollitical hits to properly govern or he can go to Washington and maiuntain his anti-tax creditials. Crist will pick flight before picking a fight.
"The Senate makes sense for Crist" because "Bridezilla" wants to float in DC social circles, & what better way to accomplish that than for "Uncle Chuckie" to become a US Senator, & in order to accomplish THAT, he's going all out to convince Obama that he's a bipartisan, Obama-friendly Republican. Like most politicians, Rethugs & Democraps alike, he makes me want to PUKE! I'll bet he's already got his tanning bad on the moving truck.
ReplyDeleteI like the tanning bed line.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment, Mike. I don't get too many of those. The St. Pete Times, "Uncle Chuckie's" hometown newspaper, won't post any of my comments, even after I threatened to sue them, as they post everybody else's, and mine are relatively mild compared to some of what's posted there.
ReplyDeleteI'd appreciate it if you'd sign & encourage others to sign my petition:

Governor Crist:
Please be advised that your hometown newspaper, the St. Pete Times, refuses to post my comments, which are most appropriate and pertinent (and relatively "mild" compared to some of the more "outspoken" comments the Times chooses to post), in blatant violation of my First Amendment right to freedom of speech, and the comments the Times does, in fact, choose to post, proves beyond shadow of doubt that my comments are deliberately being targeted and discriminated against. It is quite clear that your hometown "rag" is avoiding posting comments that you may find "objectionable," which suggests that you have communicated to the Times that you do not wish for them to publish my comments, as the Times publisher and reporters refuse to respond to my e-mails.
May I remind you, Governor Crist, that on the day of your wedding, upon hearing voices of protest from citizens, you stated, "Freedom of speech is alive and well." I am an American and lifelong Floridian, Governor Crist, and I expect elected officials and media outlets to honor and celebrate MY civil and Constitutional rights, as well.
In addition, I find it "interesting" that Florida's media outlets lost no time in covering the Ethics complaints filed against Ray Sansom, yet the fact that I have filed a SACS complaint against Northwest Florida State College is being kept "under wraps." At this point, Governor Crist, as is evident if you've been reading the many blogs and comments posted regarding this issue, that SACS Principle of Integrity has been flagrantly violated, putting the college's accreditation in serious jeopardy.
I look forward to your speedy, thoughtful response--other than your typical "roboresponses" and inane responses I've received from Warren Davis and Rex Newman (who never even heard of the S-CHIP)...and yes, I am continuing to post these e-mail trails all over cyberspace.

…The illusion of America as the earthly paradise, in which everyone recovers original goodness: which becomes in fact a curious idea that prosperity itself justifies everything, is a sign of goodness, is a carte blanche to continue to be prosperous in any way feasible: and this leads to the horror that we now see: because we are prosperous, because we are successful, because we have all this amazing “know-how” (without real intelligence or moral wisdom, without even a really deep scientific spirit), we are entitled to defend ourselves by any means whatever, without any limitation, and all the more so because what we are defending is our illusion of innocence…
