Jim Johnson is surprised that I neither commented on or tore into Sam Gibbons endorsing Gus Bilirakis. I don't think the Gibbons endorsement will matter much. Gibbons is too introverted to go into Lieberman-style attacks against Bilirakis's Democratic opponents. Gibbons has been out of politics too long to make much of an impression on voters. That was the problem with Bilirakis's 2006 opponent Phyllis Busansky.
What will decide the race Democrat John Dicks's campaign and alerting voters to Bilirakis's pro-Bush voting record.
An endosement that will matter is if Dicks can get DCCC backing and a photo-op with Barack Obama. That will only happen if the party establishment believes Dicks has a chance of winning. Infoming voters on how Bilirakis's mother micromanages every aspect of his political career is a good way to cast doubt into his leadership abilities.
I'm curious where Dicks stood on the pork project Championship Park. Google searches have provided little. Dicks was Mayor of Plant City when Norman was making a major push for his $40 million little league complex.
Ya know, Michael, I should know better than to prod... :-)
ReplyDeletePersonally, if Phyllis Busansky couldn't beat him in '06... Dicks won't beat him this year.
Of course, you're right the endorsement won't mean much... Dems who "might" care won't vote for Bilirakis... Republicans won't be swayed...
Personally, if Phyllis Busansky couldn't beat him in '06... Dicks won't beat him this year.
ReplyDeleteI'm not confident that Phyllis Busansky can beat Buddy Johnson. She is a horrible candidate. Unfortunately, the Democratic establishment is behind her. Lee Nelson is the stronger general election opponent.
Busansky ran for Congress in 1996 and lost. Wayne Garcia might be working in Washington now, as Busansky's Chief of Staff if she won. Busansky is a not ready for prime-time candidate.
I am SHOCKED that sam gibbons would endorse them.
I'm not. Gibbons is an old school Democrat. Personal allegiances matter more than party. Sam Rashid, Republican activist and poker player, bitches about Tampa area Republicans acting like Democrats. With a few exceptions(Kathy Castor), I don't see a difference.
Jim, go buy some McCain golf gear. The Maverick is going to need the money at the rate Obama is raising money. Say the words Jim: "Terry McAuliffe raising money for Obama." That should put fear into your GOP heart.
I canNOT believe that jim johnson or anyone ALIVE would support mccain.
ReplyDeleteIf the devil himself came down from georgia I'd vote for him first.
LOL.
McCain still has some people fooled.
Even younger people.
Blast Off was right to put that huggy bear picture up adn try to take it viral.
That does it for most people.
You are right as rain about all you said(naturally)
