Nick Denton was sold Wonkette to editor Ken Layne and Blogads owner Henry Copeland. I'm sure Denton will be able to manage with his porn site Fleshbot.
The problem with Wonkette's advertising revenue is Denton's ad people are used to selling ad space to geeky tech companies. Wonkette's audience is political. Blogads is better-suited to dealing with political ads. They have experience dealing with such sites as Daily Kos.
Personally, I rarely read Wonkette since Ana Marie Cox left. The blog was an offshoot of her personality. Wonkette is dull now.
It's a brand name, though... For another example, take my once favorite target: Atrios. He stopped reallly giving a shit about his blog a couple years ago and Eschaton is a shell of what it used to be. Yet it still gets thousands upon thousands of visitors everyday.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have a brand name in blogging.
