Jim Greer Fought the RNC and the RNC Won

The Republican National Committee voted 121-9 to maintain the policy of Florida Republicans losing 50 percent of the delegates. RPOF Chariman Jim Greer's statement is hysterical spin.

"While not surprised, I was disappointed that the full committee did not recognize the validity of Florida’s position that it is not in violation of the rule. This is a long process and I continue to be confident that Florida will ultimately seat its full delegation. I am appreciative of the members who supported Florida’s position and I look forward to continuing this dialogue in a respectful and cooperative manner. In the unlikely event that Florida’s delegation is reduced to 57 members, the Republican Party of Florida has adopted rules to ensure that Florida’s delegates to the convention have an influential and prominent role in selecting the Republican nominee.

If Greer actually believes that the Charlie Crist and the legislature didn't violate the rules by moving the primary up before Feb. 5th than he is too stupid to be running a state party. The other possibility is he is lying through his teeth. You decide which is truth.

My problem is that the leadership never admitted they made a horrible mistake by moving up the primary. The reason the parties punish them is to make them eat crow ffor these bogus statements. Floridians, this is your leadership in action.

The nonsense about "the Republican Party of Florida has adopted rules to ensure that Florida’s delegates to the convention have an influential and prominent role" is mute. The RPOF can make all the rules they want. The RNC decides how delegates are set. The 1981 Supreme Court decision Democratic Party of U.S. v. Wisconsin, 450 U.S. 107 gives national parties the final say on delegates.

The State has a substantial interest in the manner in which its elections are conducted, and the National Party has a substantial interest in the manner in which the delegates to its National Convention are selected. But these interests are not incompatible, and to the limited extent they clash in this case, both interests can be preserved. The National Party rules do not forbid Wisconsin to conduct an open primary. But if Wisconsin does open its primary, it cannot require that Wisconsin delegates to the National Party Convention vote there in accordance with the primary results, if to do so would violate Party rules. Since the Wisconsin Supreme Court has declared that the National Party cannot disqualify delegates who are bound to vote in accordance with the results of the Wisconsin open primary, its judgment is reversed.

It is so ordered.

Floridians need to channel their anger at state leadership and not the national parties. State officials are the people that keep fucking up elections. Florida will continue to be a national laughingstock until elected leaders are fearful that their election mistakes will force them to lose their jobs. Katherine Harris's hideous handling of the 2000 recount helped her win a Congressional seat. That isn't what I consider holding a public official's feet to the fire.
