Student Andrew Meyer was tasered when he was arrested for speaking too long at a John Kerry Q and A. Officers told Meyer he was arrested for inciting a riot. The student was annoying, but inciting a riot is pushing it. There were hardly any people at the Kerry event.
John Kerry was overwhelmed by the situation. He stammered a few words. It was obvious he had no control over the events. Kerry released this statement.
"In 37 years of public appearances, through wars, protests and highly emotional events, I have never had a dialogue end this way," Kerry said in a statement. "I believe I could have handled the situation without interruption, but I do not know what warnings or other exchanges transpired between the young man and the police prior to his barging to the front of the line and their intervention. I asked the police to allow me to answer the question and was in the process of responding when he was taken into custody."
University of Florida Police Chief Linda Stump will conduct an investigation into the arrest.
To students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends:
I have received a great deal of communication and input last night and this morning regarding the incident that occurred Monday at the conclusion of a town hall forum being held by Sen. John Kerry. The incident resulted in a student being tasered.
We are interested in learning what happened and are taking the following immediate steps to ensure the university utilizes best practice protocols:
• University of Florida Police Chief Linda Stump has requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conduct a formal investigation into the arrest of UF student Andrew Meyer. An independent review such as this will make sure the results are objective and impartial. Chief Stump’s priority is to ensure that the public remains confident in the department’s ability to keep the campus safe.
• Two officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
• We plan to assemble a panel of faculty and students to review our police protocols, our management practices and the FDLE report to come up with a series of recommendations for the university.
• Administrators and police officials plan to analyze the incident and conduct an internal review and will consider changing protocols in response to this incident, if necessary.
• Finally, as is standard procedure, the State Attorney’s Office will review the charges brought against Mr. Meyer. We have communicated with the State Attorney and understand he plans to expedite his review.
I will talk about the incident and answer questions at a news conference scheduled for 2 p.m. in Emerson Alumni Hall.

I personally hate the use of tasers. I am certain that if several law enforcement officers are telling me to shut the fuck up or I will be tased: I'm going to shut up. This whole situation is a mess that could have been avoided. Kerry showed no leadership, Meyer ilustrated bad judgement and several law enforcement officers openly used a taser in the Youtube era.
well said!
ReplyDeleteThis is a bazillion times worse than that lefty dude getting the bums rush at that Republican meeting. Don't recall the names but I do recall tas getting bent out of shape about it. I think his biggest focus was the Republican speaker didn't do anything. Same thing in reverse here. I was listening to Michael Savage and he was saying it was because the kid made a comment about the Skull & Crossbones Society. It was the key word to take him out.
ReplyDeleteI dunno. But they overreacted for sure. I don't see how they could have deemed him threatening. Annoying, yes. Is it my imagination, or are we seeing more wackos the closer we get to the election?
This is the vantage point of the taser incident at the Kerry speech that no one wants you to see. Check it out at www.thirdrailradio.com
ReplyDeleteKerry was "overwhelmed?" Get real. John Kerry stood there and did nothing. Said nothing. Just stood there and watched, as did a good number of other brain dead students. I was shocked at Kerry's nonchalance. But why should I be? He's part of the problem.
ReplyDeleteCongress has capitulated our Constitution and our Bill of Rights to a rouge regime bent on an ideological imperial scheme. We're all at risk. Tasered for asking a question? They'll be using high energy weapons on protesters next. Stand up and fight, people.

This whole thing has me so angry. I feel like my bum was raped by injustice and pigs, I feel like my bum is bleeding it was raped so bad. That student shouldn't have been stopped, if he wanted to talk for 5 hours that's his constitutional right. Freedom of speech is like children, you have to love it, and give it cookies, cookies of liberty!
ReplyDeleteThose officers shouldn't have even touched him, they should be fired for touching his shirt, that was a nice shirt, he has clothing rights. If anything they should have complemented him on his shirt, and said "sir, thats a nice shirt."
They shouldn't have tried to remove him from that room, this is what the cops should have done: They should have asked him nicely, saying please and thank you, they should have asked him again, with a sincere "pretty pretty please", then they should have put together a committee and drafted a petition, they should have passed that petition around and collected signatures. Once they had collected the signatures they should have presented the petition to the student along with a fruit basket and a nice card to show how much they care. They should be careful that the fruit basket didn't come with any offensive fruits, like blackberries and mandarin oranges.
If he refused the petition they should have held a second committee, in this committee they should draft a second petition, one more accommodating, maybe include a cash prize as an incentive, or maybe a gift card to JCPennys.
If he still refused they should have called his family and friends, and brought them into the room for an intervention. They should have tried to talk to him see if they could reach a compromise, of course we wouldn't want them to try and talk over him, this would have violated his free speech, they also should have thought of getting him a chair, if he is going to do all that talking they should have got him a nice comfy chair to sit in, he does have a right to a comfortable seat, that in the 32nd amendment I believe, and was upheld by Pussy v Virginia in the Supreme court.
If the intervention failed they should have made submitted a referendum so that in the next election the people of the state could vote on whether or not this student should be allowed to continue, thats how democracy works, and we all know democracy is like a rose, pretty, but also pokey. Also democracy smells good, breath it in baby doll, yeah go USA!!!
If the referendum passed the police should then go and fill the room with balloons, and wrap themselves in bubble wrap and velvet, but only really really soft velvet. Velvet soft enough it could be used as toilet paper, and even if you wiped really hard it would still feel good, and maybe even tickle a little.
They should then present the student with a formal order on piece of paper explaining that the officers were about to use force. After he had time to read the paper they should again inform him of their intention and gingerly attempt to remove him from the room, with great care not to wrinkle his clothing, he does after all have rights.
If he resisted at all they should then apologize and back off, we wouldn't want to violate his rights.
If he got mad and hit an officer they should apologize for hurting his hand, he does after all have the right to a hand that isn't sore, and if those pigs hurt him with their sharp cheek bones they should be fired and thrown in jail for excessive force. God I hate pigs, oink oink fucking oink, you know what I mean?
One of the officers should give him a pistol as well, so that the student has one as well, we all know that we should always be fair, that's what justice is about, fairness. Justice is like a river, it flows, and if you dam it the fish, who are like justice swimmers are not free, that's wrong, like when you kill a mockingbird, and that's a sin.
If he started to shoot the officers they should run away, and form a committee to address that problem, the last thing we want is excessive force, the last thing we want is pigs keeping the man down. Long live the revolution. Lets fight for our rights, police violence is a plague to the country, if you rob a bank you have a right to that property that money, it shouldn't be taken away. If a cop touches you we should cut his finger off and feed it to his unborn children, this is how the founders would want it.
GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES
He had a paperback book in his hand...yep, them books is dangerous...especially in them there people that actually read them at that there school. This is scary
