I guess what was written down and what was felt in the hearts and minds of the people back then may differ. I don't recall anyone saying they wanted to kill or conquer them just because they were of a different race. Now, killing for other reasons like greed... that is more likely. Selfish savages taking advantage of those less armed.
And since they didn't build a wall, you can see what happened to them too!
