Charlie Crist & Conservatives

William March of the Tampa Tribune writes a must-read article on how conservatives are unhappy with Charlie Crist. Times have changed. The Bush era is over in Florida and America. I couldn't be happier.

Mr. G has a superb post on Crist's relationship with conservatives. He predicts that Crist will only pick battles he knows he can easily win. Mr. G cite stem cell research has an example of Crist giving in to Christian conservatives.

My take is Crist is an amazingly shrewd politician. He has for more political acumen than I imagined. My take, during the campaign, was he is an airhead. I was wrong.

The popularity of Crist and poll numbers of Rudy Giuliani shows that registered Republicans aren't are tired of the era of Ann Coulter, Fox News and Iraq war. Gay marriage, gun control and abortion aren't issues that affect their daily lives. Fiscal issues such as tax cuts are where the GOP can still win them over. Where Republicans will continue to lose them is on inflation (which plays into voters' pocketbooks) and quality of life issues.
