Three Cheers For the Liberal Media

I see if wingnuts stomp their feet long enough they will get the media to air the talking points. Case in point is the hissy fit over Amanda Marcotte blogging for John Edwards. Terry Moran of ABC News writes his magnum opus on Amanda's hate speech.

Questions: What, if anything, does it tell us about Edwards that he's joined up with this blogger? Is Edwards' association with a person who has written these things a legitimate issue for voters, as they wonder--among other things--whom he might appoint to high office if he's elected? If a Republican candidate teamed up with a right-wing blogger who spewed this kind of venom, how would people react? Is the mere raising of this issue a kind of underhanded censorship, a way of ruling out of bounds some kinds of opinion? Are we all just going to have to get used to a more rough-and-tumble, profane, and even hate-filled public arena in the age of the blogosphere?

This is what I warned Jim Johnson about in the comments of another post. A political opponent will dig up the most nonsensical stuff and take it out of context. Moran quotes pieces of Amanda's posts on the Catholic church's position on birth control, and the Duke rape case (which she has deleted), and etc. By some strange coincidence, Moran quoted the same passages as Michelle Malkin did in a recent Hot Air segment.

I watched this video and actually felt sorry for Michelle Malkin. Her career is reduced to childish rants against bloggers on Youtube. I watched the video and wonder why the people in her life didn't get together and have a group intervention. The woman looks mentally unhinged.

The video isn't funny. That's expected. Malkin is unappealing as a performer. She's unfunny and looks really mean-spirited. Anyone who watched Monty Python's the Meaning of Life knows every skit in the movie is intentionally designed to be politically incorrect. It's also one of the funniest movies ever made. A good satirist understands who he or she is mocking. Malkin can not understand why a feminist would be upset about a bunch of college boys raping a black woman. That is what makes Malkin's performance come off as mentally unhinged.

I seriously doubt Moran has read Pandagon. He is quoting the same posts that have making their way around the wingnutsphere. I know from experience that journalists can be lazy. I was interviewed by a reporter about my previous blog. After thirty seconds it became obvious that she never read it. Another reporter kept asking me if I dug up anything about a story he was looking into.

This is what kills me about how conservatives bitch about the so-called liberal media. They pout long enough and the mainstream outlets will run their nonstories. They fail to point out people on their own side like Charles Johnson and Glenn "thinking about killing Michael Moore" Beck.

War Room is reporting that Amanda and Melissa McEwan have been fired by the Edwards campaign. If that's true then it says much about the political courage of Edwards.
