Writing Your Representative

Derek Newton is an ex-Lawton Chiles aide the the brains behind Florida Politics and FLA Politics. He wrote two letters to Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. The first letter was his distress over the President's policy of opening the mail of law-abidding citizens. The second was Newton's concer about the warrant wiretapping data mining. He was overjoyed when he saw a letter from Ros-Lehtinen's office. Finally, his complaints were being taken seriously.

This is what Ros-Lehtinen or (more likely) one of her staffers wrote.

Dear Derek:

I would like to say how wonderful it was to receive your kind holiday wishes. It truly is always a pleasure to be so sweetly reminded of those who hold us so dear to their hearts.

During this special time of year I find it important not only to consider all that we have and all that we should be thankful for, but also to look expectantly into the future with visions of what we wish to accomplish. I know that we will only be able to realize these hopes if we are given the love and support of our families and friends. Your kind letter assures me that you too share this belief.

Again, I thank you for your beautiful holiday wishes. I extend my warmest wishes to you and your family for a joyous and prosperous New Year.

Sincerely,

(signed)
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen

It's a shame Ros-Lehtinen didn't get swept out during the midterm elections. She can't even do a decent job of pretending to care about her constituents.
