The Mitt Factor

Florida is going to see a lot of Mitt Romney in the next two years. Romney just hired Florida GOP operatives Mandy Fletcher and Marc Reichelderfer. Romney is putting much stock into the state's straw poll. This is where Reichelderfer's expertise comes in. Winning a straw poll will have no effect on the primary. Romney's people are banking on getting the rank and file insiders on their candidate's bandwagon from a good showing.

Romney is also putting in place his Florida base of operations - in the event the primary is moved up. State Representatives David Rivera (R - Miami) and Jeremy Ring (D - Parkland) introduced legislation to move the primary to February 5th or one week after New Hampshire. The RNC and DNC have shown zero interest in moving Florida's primary. Short answer: the legislation is a pipe dream.

Romney also raised an estimated $6.5 million. All in one day. If Romney's presidential aspirations fail; he has a great future as a telemarketer.

What strikes me is why social conservatives are excited about the Mittster. He has flipped-flopped on civil unions. He maintained he was running for a second term. Romney also said abortions should be "safe and legal." The man lies and lies. He is another opportunist who is cynically playing Christian conservatives as suckers. I'm betting the evangelicals will fall for the bait.
