John Bolton's Swan Song

John Bolton's final moment as ambassador to the United Nations was delaying the celebration of the abolishment of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade

Bolton's problem was that the declaration used the word "emphasizing." I'm not making this up.

Recalling paragraphs 98 - 106 of the Durban Declaration and emphasizing in particular on the importance of the provision of effective remedies, recourse, redress, and compensatory and the other measures at the natural, regional, and international levels," aimed at countering the continued impact of slavery and the slave trade.

The United States would suggest the following:

Recalling paragraphs 98 - 106 of the Durban Declaration and the the emphasis in particular on the importance of the provision of effective remedies, recourse, redress, and compensatory and the other measures at the natural, regional, and international levels," aimed at countering the continued impact of slavery and the slave trade.

The question needs to be asked. What kind of person holds up a celebration for the ending of slavery over one word? Bolton's insensitivity continues to amaze.
