Alex Sink On Property Insurance

CFO elect Alex Sink calls for sanity on property insurance.

''Folks, we are in a situation where if the rates increase as proposed we are going to destroy our economy,'' Sink warned House members attending a three-day conference on property insurance. ''That provision needs to be repealed.''

The Florida House greeted Sink's words with silence. Do these politicians have any idea how angry Floridians are about Citizens Property Insurance and county property taxes. Citizens are ready to revolt.

Sink did take a shot at the insurance lobby.

''We can't keep giving favors to insurance companies and have them stick our nose in it 10 days after the bill is passed,'' she said, referring to State Farm's rate-hike filing on the heels of favorable insurance-reform legislation last spring.

''It can't be a one-way street any longer.''

Let's see if the House heeds her words.
