The Daily Show Photo-Op

I started laughing my ass off when I saw this. How many Katrina victims act like Rockey Vaccarella.

"I just wish the president could have another term in Washington," he said as cameras rolled on the South Lawn, where the two appeared together after coffee.

"Wait a minute," Bush interjected with a laugh.

"You know, I wish you had another four years, man," Vaccarella said. "If we had this president for another four years, I think we'd be great."

This is the same President who said, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job" and "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees." Bush was briefed that the levees were unstable. Bush didn't find out that Brown resigned until the White House press corp told him.

Keep running those photo-ops boys.

Update: Rockey Vaccarella ran as a Republican in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. I actually was relieved knowing that the man was just a PR plant for a photo-op. Otherwise, he would be certifiably insane. Then I read his Myspace profile.

My journey will start in St. Bernard Parish, LA and end at the White House where an authentic Louisiana chef will prepare a good old fashioned Cajun dinner for President Bush. To make the occasion even more memorable, the dinner will take place inside my trailer where I will personally deliver my message to the President on behalf of the people who have lost so much.

Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.

Update: Vaccarella's story doesn't make sense. How can he take a FEMA trailer to Washington D.C. FEMA has a policy that the trailers are not to be moved by the occupents. FEMA has passed out flyers saying: "YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU! DO NOT MOVE YOUR FEMA TRAILER ANYWHERE ELSE OR SELL IT! THIS TRAILER BELONGS TO THE U.S. GOVERNMENT AND CANNOT BE MOVED BY ANYONE OTHER THAN FEMA/U.S. GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS."

  2. I have heard that argument before by Ed Morrisey. Weak. The federal government was warning by the Army Corp of Engineers that the levees could breach. Bush was on vacation while bodies were floating in the water. Brown told Bush that Katrina was "the big one." He did nothing. I also hold the Mayor and Governor accountable. They're Democrats. You're more concerned with partisanship than the lives of you're fellow Americans.

Man up, Michael. If you want to support your claim that Bush was warned about the instability of the levees using a reference to the Army Corps of Engineers, I'm all for it.
When you use the NBC piece in support of your claim that Bush was warned about the stability of the levee system, you're the one who looks bad--and you look even worse if you already knew that he NBC report concerned topping of the levees instead of a levee breach. It makes it look as though you're not averse to misleading the reader who doesn't peek under the surface.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Look how you try to excuse the inappropriate citation with assurances the you also hold local government officials responsible.

If you've got a reference to the Army Corps of Engineers, then use it.
Don't give us cheap excuses for the shoddy writing.

    I was being facetious.
You should do your friend a favor and delete his comment, assuming that you recognize that he has severely embarrassed himself.

If you don't realize how badly he's slipped up, then the comment serves as a fitting memorial representing both of you, on the other hand.
    Your call, of course.
