Joe Redner a local businessman and civil rights activist filed suit to have the ordinance overturned and sought an injunction to prevent the ordinance from taking effect while the lawsuit is underway.
The county wrote in their court filings that the ordinance would only control "governmental speech". I'm disappointed the county's lawyers didn't write something more Orwellian sounding. There is also this nugget.
"The county should not be forced by judicial act to endorse 'gay pride' activities any more than the government might be forced to endorse Nazi activities," the county argues.
Nice comparison. I'm happy to live in a county that does it's best to live up to the stereotypical image the rest of America has with the South. If the county lawyers knew anything about history - they would have an understanding of how the Nazis committed genocide on gays. Someone explain to me how a Ronda Storms parody profile is offensive, but these remarks aren't.
