Gun At Rep. Gabrielle Giffords Townhall Meeting

A tea bagger protester dropped a gun at a health care townhall meeting. Staffers for Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords called law enforcement.

“Yelling and screaming is counterproductive,” she told the Sierra Vista Herald at a Congress on Your Corner event last week. There, one visitor dropped a gun at the meet n’ greet held in a Douglas Safeway, her staff says.

That has aides, who called police to the event, concerned for her safety.

“We have never felt the need before to notify law enforcement when we hold these events,” said spokesman C.J. Karamargin.

The tea party protesters are not part of the mainstream. Their behavior is scary and counterproductive. I don't believe President Obama has the political courage to take the tea party movement on. Obama left health care reform up to Congress and that has been a disaster. The President avoided being placed in the political fray and let conservatives spread misinformation about health care.

The protests are getting increasingly violent. Obama hasn't once said, "Enough is enough." Why is he afraid of condemning a movement that seeks his political destruction? If Obama isn't willing to fight for health care then he had no business dragging the Democratic Party into this.

This story is misleading. It is very common to carry a gun in AZ and there is no indication the person had it specifically because of the event. Here is the real story.

Please correct your story. You have no idea whether the person with the gun was for or against the legislation, and he had a permit to carry as verified by the police. When he was asked to take the gun to his car by the police, he did so and returned to the meeting.

A conservative blog hardly counts as a reliable source. There is no reason to bring a gun to a public meeting.

Do you keep a fire extinguisher with you in your home and do all public places have one as well ? and if so , WHY ? ...... Same goes for a gun in any circumstance , you never know when you will need it. They just had a man walk into a public school board meeting and started shooting , it was all over the news. duh !!!, People that are going to commit dangers to others don't care where it is . Here in Florida a man walk up to some people on Thanks Giving morning at their home and for them there had been no reason and killed two and injured 4 , So DON'T give people that you DON'T NEED A GUN ANYWHERE ! SIMPLE FACT IS THAT YOU DO !!!!!!!! People are nuts and we have a Constitutional RIGHT to protect our selves NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE ... SO GET OVER YOURSELF

And by the way if some people were at the Safeway today with personal guns the little 9 year old as well as Gifford and the others shot today might not have went as far as it did and maybe those killed might still be alive so DON'T SAY WE DON'T NEED GUNS TO PROTECT OUR SELVES BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE STUPID AND YOU JUST CAN'T FIX STUPID

That 9 year old girl was born September 11, 2001...
Only last week the media was used to advocate the execution of Michael Vick for killing dogs. Last April Republican Congressman Paul Broun used the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing: "Fellow patriots, we have a lot of domestic enemies of the constitution, and they're right down the Mall, in the Congress of the United States – and right down Independence Avenue in the White House that belongs to us. It's not about my ability to hunt, which I love to do. It's not about the ability for me to protect my family and property against criminals, which we have the right to do. But it's all about us protecting ourselves from a tyrannical government." The year before, this same Broun singled out then-Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, as one such "domestic enemy of the constitution". He was re-elected last November with 67% of the vote. As a teacher of 20th century history here about 7 miles from Dachau in Germany, I know all about how self-serving demagogues like Palin will sacrifice people's lives for their own ends and use God and patriotism to justify it.
