Rick Santorum Has A Body Armor Problem

Santorum

I knew that voting against body armor was going to come back to haunt Republicans. In 2003, Rick Santorum voted to kill an amendment by Mary Landrieu. A Republican killing a Democrat's amendment isn't news. Except that the amendment was $1 billion for National Guard body armor. Now VoteVets.org is running a campaign ad targeted at Santorum.

Don't trust the Santorum campaign touting their polling numbers. (In fact, don't trust internal polling stories.) A recent USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows Santorum trailing by 18 points with likely voters. He's going hard to the right in the general election. If the race was that close, Santorum would be steering towards the middle. Bye Bye Rick.

  2. Good call, "anonymous."

Vote vets is a PAC formed specifically to attack those who support Bush's policies.
In short, Vote vets would be running ads against Republicans who support Bush's policies regardless of the bogus body armor issue.

If only Michael Hussey could check facts 5% as well as Annenberg.

  3. Bryan, I have a friend who served in Iraq who states that National Guard were using Vietnam era armor. Also, this has already been fact-checked by Media Matters.

Bryan, you can go to the Senate website and see that Republicans voted to table Landrieu Amdt. No. 452.

  4. "Bryan, I have a friend who served in Iraq who states that National Guard were using Vietnam era armor."

    ROFL
    Way to go, champ.

Also, this has already been fact-checked by Media Matters.

"Media Matters" is hopelessly partisan, unlike the Annenberg Center which actually does accurate fact-checking most of the time. Plus they don't touch the issue of the supposedly vintage armor, from what I can see.

That leaves you relying on anecdotal evidence that you are unable to verify.
That type of thing makes puts "Pushing Rope" in the category of the world's worst blogs.

It's simply pathetic to claim, as Media Matters does, that since the appropriation could have been used for body armor that therefore votes against the Landrieu Amendment were votes against providing body armor.
You're nothing more than a partisan dupe, Michael.

  5. I've been researching this because I'm a Marine mom, and it looks like almost everyone ended up voting for something much better than the original down vote:

    http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/PLAW-108publ106/html/PLAW-108publ106.htm

    That's what went into law.

Who are these "VoteVets", they certainly don't have our troops' best interest at heart. Wikipedia lists them as a strong liberal progressive group for Democrat Congressmen
